Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson Compares the Blockchain Solution's Governance System with Mainstream Politics

Citing the Cardano community's decision over recent proposals, Hoskinson highlighted how democratic governance can enhance responsibility among decision-makers in a government setup.

Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson Compares the Blockchain Solution's Governance System with Mainstream Politics

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has drawn a parallel between the blockchain solution’s governance system and mainstream politics, offering his perspective during the last US election cycle.

Highlighting the Cardano community’s recent decision over proposals put forth by Input Output Global (IOG), Hoskinson explained how democratic governance can foster greater responsibility among those making proposals in a government setting.

"As I said last year. Unaccountable and unelected bureaucrats will always let you down. We just all have to push forward regardless of bumps in the road and take Cardano to the next level. Just remember the people who got you there and the ones who didn't"

Unaccountable and unelected bureaucrats will always let you down.

We just all have to push forward regardless of bumps in the road and take Cardano to the next level.

And take note of the people who got you there and the ones who didn't.

— Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles) August 28, 2025In his latest post, the Cardano CEO went on to say that the tendency for unaccountable and unelected bureaucrats to let the people down is nothing new.

He urged the community to keep pushing forward regardless of any bumps in the road and focus on taking Cardano to the next level. However, Hoskinson encouraged users to remain conscious of mainstream politics and clocked those who clocked in with minimal effort.

Foundation Highlights Governance Dynamics

The Cardano Foundation's abstention from voting “yes” or “no” on nearly all of IOG’s proposed 2025 budget items, with the exception of Project Catalyst, has been a hot topic in recent days.

In explaining its decision, the Foundation stated that it abstained from voting on proposals that it felt were not cost-effective, transparent, or aligned with overall ecosystem goals. Conversely, it approved the Project Catalyst proposal (for 80,058,000 ADA). This is because the community-driven innovation fund falls directly under the Foundation’s own mandate to foster ecosystem growth and wellbeing.

Project Catalyst has been a significant funding mechanism within Cardano since 2020, having reportedly distributed well over 100 million ADA across thousands of initiatives by early 2025.

suggesting that the Foundation’s recent voting pattern, including the abstentions, shouldn't be interpreted as tension arising within the current Voltaire governance era. Rather, he described it as a healthy exercise of decentralized governance, operating as intended.

Decentralization Seen as Key Cardano Appeal

Among the leading blockchain protocols, Cardano is often recognized as having the most decentralized governance system, a quality that enhances its appeal among crypto community members.

Many analysts view the Cardano protocol as an ideal solution for trustless processes that would allow for a level playing ground for participants in the blockchain ecosystem to contribute and make a difference.
