Apr 12, 2024 at 01:13 am

Circle, a P2P payment company and manager of the USDC stablecoin, has introduced a new technology that allows BlackRock's BUIDL (BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity) investors to seamlessly convert their shares into USDC. This blockchain-enabled service provides a fast, transparent, and efficient way for investors to access liquidity and integrate traditional finance with digital assets.

BlackRock BUIDL Investors Gain Access to USDC Conversion Via Circle's Smart Contract Solution

New York, NY (Press Release) - Circle, a leading peer-to-peer (P2P) payment company and the manager of the USDC stablecoin, has announced the launch of a groundbreaking technology that enables investors in BlackRock's BUIDL (BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity) to seamlessly convert their shares into USDC. This novel smart contract functionality marks a significant milestone in bridging traditional finance with the rapidly evolving realm of digital assets.

The smart contract, seamlessly integrated with Circle, facilitates the frictionless transfer of BUIDL shares on the secondary market, providing investors with an efficient, transparent, and round-the-clock means of converting their holdings into USDC. This technological advancement underscores Circle's unwavering commitment to alleviating investor pain points through innovative blockchain solutions.

"The emergence of tokenized real-world assets presents a paradigm shift in the financial landscape, and we are delighted to offer this functionality to BlackRock," remarked Jeremy Allaire, Co-founder and CEO of Circle. "By delivering the transformative benefits of blockchain technology through USDC availability, we aim to empower investors and accelerate the adoption of digital assets."

In March 2024, BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, unveiled BUIDL, a first-of-its-kind tokenized fund built upon the Ethereum network. This revolutionary platform enables investors to purchase ERC-20 BUIDL tokens representing fund shares, providing access to the yield of US dollar-denominated financial assets. Notably, BlackRock's BUIDL invests primarily in instruments of low risk, such as US Treasury bills.

BlackRock's position as one of the world's largest Bitcoin holders, boasting over 266,000 BTC valued at approximately $18.5 billion, further underscores the significance of their foray into the tokenized fund market. BUIDL represents the investment giant's maiden venture into this domain.

The latest collaboration between BlackRock and Circle builds on their long-standing partnership in the cryptocurrency space. In 2022, Circle commenced managing a portion of USDC reserves in collaboration with BlackRock, establishing the Circle Reserve Fund. The fund was initially composed of 80% short-term US Treasuries and 20% cash, providing investors with a stable and transparent investment vehicle.

Circle's unwavering commitment to innovation and BlackRock's industry-leading status position this partnership as a catalyst for wider adoption of tokenized real-world assets. As the financial landscape continues to evolve, Circle remains at the forefront, providing transformative solutions that bridge the gap between traditional and digital finance.
