Bitcoin Skyrockets Past $65,000 as Inflation Data Boosts Confidence
May 16, 2024 at 03:39 am
The price of Bitcoin (BTC) skyrocketed past $65,000 on Thursday, hitting its highest level since May 6th. This surge coincides with the release of U.S. inflation data, which showed a slower-than-expected pace of inflation in April. The analyst BitQuant predicts that Bitcoin is poised to reach $95,000 "in just one move," while the recent launch of new U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs has contributed to increased buying pressure on the cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin Soars Beyond $65,000 as Inflation Data Sparks Optimism
The cryptocurrency market witnessed a significant surge on Thursday, May 12, with Bitcoin (BTC) breaking through the $65,000 mark for the first time since May 6. This upward trajectory came on the heels of positive economic data from the United States, indicating that the pace of inflation has moderated in April.
The release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed a softer-than-expected increase in prices, dampening concerns about the Federal Reserve's timeline for raising interest rates. This development spurred optimism among traders, who view rate increases as potentially unfavorable for risk assets such as Bitcoin.
Following the release of the CPI data, Bitcoin's price surged, hovering at around $66,034 at the time of writing. This represents a notable gain of 7.29% over the previous 24 hours. The broader cryptocurrency market also experienced positive momentum, with Ether (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, trading at $3,007.94, a 3.9% increase from the previous day. Solana (SOL) also saw a significant jump, rising by 7.6% to approximately $154.91.
Bitcoin's recent resurgence marks a recovery from a period of decline that followed its all-time high in March, when it nearly reached $74,000. The downward trend was attributed to a combination of factors, including concerns about economic headwinds and geopolitical uncertainty.
Amidst speculation about whether the April halving event, which reduced Bitcoin's issuance rate by half, had been fully priced into the market, renowned cryptocurrency analyst BitQuant has made a bold prediction. According to BitQuant, Bitcoin is poised to reach an astonishing $95,000 "in just one move."
BitQuant's analysis is based on a technical pattern known as a "cup and handle" formation, which typically indicates a period of consolidation followed by a breakout to new highs. The analyst believes that this setup is currently playing out on Bitcoin's weekly chart.
The recent surge in Bitcoin's price has also been fueled by the influx of capital into the newly launched U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs. These ETFs, backed by reputable financial institutions such as BlackRock, Fidelity, and JPMorgan, have attracted billions of dollars in inflows, providing significant buying pressure on Bitcoin and further legitimizing cryptocurrencies in the mainstream financial landscape.
As the cryptocurrency market continues to evolve, analysts and investors alike are keeping a close eye on developments that could influence the trajectory of Bitcoin and other digital assets. The upcoming Federal Reserve meeting, expected to provide further guidance on monetary policy, is one key event that is likely to have an impact on the market.
