A recent survey conducted by The Nakamoto Project indicates that 80% of Americans support the conversion of part of the U.S. gold reserves into Bitcoin.

A recent survey conducted by The Nakamoto Project has revealed that a vast majority of Americans, at 80%, support the idea of converting a portion of the U.S. gold reserves into Bitcoin. The median recommendation for the conversion rate was 10%, with suggestions varying from 1% to 30%. These findings are part of a broader narrative examining public sentiment toward cryptocurrency and government engagement in the space.
The survey, which polled 3,345 respondents, also unveiled that younger demographics showed an even stronger preference for converting gold to Bitcoin. Those aged 26 to 30 displayed the highest level of support, followed by individuals under 26 and those between 31 and 35. This aligns with observations of Generation Z and younger millennials driving the narrative for cryptocurrency adoption.
Furthermore, the survey results indicate that more Americans now own Bitcoin than gold, highlighting a shift in investment habits as younger generations are entering the financial landscape.
The discussion around converting gold to Bitcoin arises as the U.S. is exploring avenues for budget-neutral involvement with digital assets. Currently, the U.S. holds the world’s largest gold reserve at 8,133 metric tons, officially valued at $42 per ounce since 1973, which totals $11 billion. However, if valued at today’s market rate of around $3,200 per ounce, the reserve would amount to over $834 billion, presenting a theoretical surplus of more than $820 billion to purchase Bitcoin.
