How do I transfer NFTs with Phantom Wallet?
Phantom Wallet is a non-custodial Solana wallet for storing SOL and NFTs, offering secure dApp interaction via browser extension or mobile app.

What Is Phantom Wallet?
Phantom Wallet is a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet designed for the Solana blockchain. It allows users to store, send, and receive SOL tokens as well as manage NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) built on the Solana network. The wallet operates as a browser extension or mobile app, offering a secure and user-friendly interface for interacting with decentralized applications (dApps). Since it is non-custodial, users retain full control of their private keys, making security a top priority when performing any transaction.
Preparing Your Phantom Wallet for NFT Transfer
Before initiating an NFT transfer, ensure your Phantom Wallet is properly configured. Install the Phantom browser extension from the official website or Chrome Web Store and create or import your wallet using the recovery phrase. Once set up, connect your wallet to the Solana network and verify that you have sufficient SOL in your balance to cover transaction fees. These fees, known as 'gas fees,' are required for every on-chain activity, including NFT transfers.
Ensure the NFT you want to transfer is already in your wallet. If not, purchase or receive it first before proceeding. You can view your NFT collection under the “Collectibles” tab within the Phantom interface. Make sure you own the NFT outright—some NFTs may be staked, locked, or part of ongoing transactions, which could prevent immediate transfer.
Locating the NFT You Want to Transfer
Open your Phantom Wallet and navigate to the “Collectibles” section. Here, you will see all NFTs currently stored in your wallet. Locate the specific NFT you wish to transfer by browsing through the list or searching by name. Clicking on the NFT will display detailed information such as its metadata, creator, and current owner status.
Double-check that the NFT is transferable. Some NFTs may come with restrictions imposed by smart contracts, preventing them from being sent to other wallets unless certain conditions are met. If no such restrictions exist, proceed to the next step.
Initiating the Transfer Process
Once you've selected the correct NFT, look for a “Transfer” or “Send” button either below the NFT preview or in the context menu. Clicking this will open a new window prompting you to enter the recipient’s wallet address. Be extremely cautious when entering or pasting the recipient’s public key, as sending an NFT to the wrong address is irreversible.
After inputting the address, review the transaction details carefully. Phantom will display the estimated gas fee required for the transfer. Confirm that you are okay with the cost before proceeding. At this point, you may also see a confirmation screen summarizing the NFT name, recipient address, and associated costs.
Signing and Confirming the Transaction
Phantom will prompt you to sign the transaction using your wallet. This step requires you to approve the action via a pop-up window. Carefully read the message displayed by Phantom, as it contains important information about what you're authorizing. Click “Approve” to continue.
Once signed, the transaction will be broadcasted to the Solana blockchain. Depending on network congestion, the transfer may take a few seconds to a couple of minutes to finalize. You can track the progress of the transaction using the Solana Explorer or directly within the Phantom Wallet under the “Activity” tab.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I cancel an NFT transfer after signing it in Phantom? No, once you sign and submit a transaction on the Solana blockchain, it becomes immutable. There is no way to cancel or reverse the transfer unless the recipient agrees to return the NFT voluntarily.
Q: Why does transferring an NFT cost SOL?Every transaction on the Solana blockchain requires a small amount of SOL to pay validators for processing and securing the network. This includes actions like sending tokens or NFTs between wallets.
Q: How do I know if my NFT transfer was successful? You can check the status of your transaction in the “Activity” tab within Phantom Wallet or by visiting a blockchain explorer like Solscan.io and searching for your transaction hash.
Q: Can I transfer multiple NFTs at once using Phantom Wallet?Currently, Phantom Wallet does not support batch transfers. Each NFT must be transferred individually, requiring separate approval and gas fees for each transaction.
