A town in Molise, Italy, is planning to unveil a monument to Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin (BTC).

Known for its high Bitcoin adoption rate among its 1,800 residents, Fornelli is financing the project, which will be completed in 2025, with local government funds. The artwork will be designed by local artist Mattia Pannoni.

Announcing the project on Facebook, the municipality said the monument will be revealed on 1 May 2025.

The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious figure behind Bitcoin’s creation, is still unsolved. Many artists have attempted to capture Satoshi’s image - often portraying a faceless figure working on a computer or wearing a hoodie.

The artwork for Fornelli's monument is expected to follow this tradition, reflecting the enigma surrounding Nakamoto's identity. It will be displayed in the Piazza Umberto I.

The town's mayor, Giovanni Tedeschi, said that the town needs to embrace new ideas. He added that the ideas of the younger generation are particularly important in shaping the future of Fornelli.
