We're on the final countdown to the 2025 Met Gala (it's next week, folks)

The final countdown to the 2025 Met Gala is officially on (it’s next week, folks). In just under seven days, the Met will host its annual avant-garde showdown in honour of the new exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

Arguably the biggest night in fashion, the Met Gala always delivers the hardest, most beautiful looks by the world’s biggest celebrities. And this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, is going to be a good one. We are guaranteed to be hyper-posting on our social media on Monday, May 5th, but we wanted to prep the ground for what’s coming. So, ahead of the 2025 Met Gala, we’ve gathered the most important info you need to know before you get spammed on social media.

When is it, and where?

Yeah, you probably know this already, but dropping it in just in case. The annual Met Gala is always hosted on the first Monday of May (this year it’s on May 5th) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.

What’s the theme?

Every year, the Met Gala funds the Met’s Costume Institute, and its yearly exhibition, with brands and guests dropping coin for a table at the Gala.

The upcoming exhibition for 2025 is titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, exploring the Black dandy and the significance of style and clothing on Black identities in the diaspora. The theme is inspired by co-curator and Columbia professor of Africana Studies Monica Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

The Met’s curation will follow the Black dandy figure from the early days in the 18th century to modern-day depictions in fashion and film. Read more on the theme here.

Who are the co-chairs and who’s on the host committee?

This year’s co-chairs (who are there to host alongside Anna Wintour) will be A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, and Lewis Hamilton, with LeBron James as an honorary co-chair. The lineup is crazy.

But, it doesn’t stop there. This year, there will also be a host committee (which is being introduced for the first time since 2019). The members for 2025 are André 3000, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Grace Wales Bonner, Tyla, Dapper Dan, Simone Biles, Spike Lee, Edward Enninful, Jeremy O. Haris, Usher, Olivier Rousteing, Janelle Monáe, and more.
