Chainlink, the decentralized oracle network, has announced a new incentive program called Chainlink Rewards. The program will distribute ecosystem tokens from projects in the Chainlink Build program to active participants and LINK token stakers.

The first collaboration in this program is with infrastructure firm Space and Time, a member of the Chainlink Build program. Space and Time will be allocating 4% of its SXT token supply—or 200 million tokens—for distribution through the rewards program.

This move represents a fresh approach to community engagement within the Chainlink ecosystem. Usually, projects prefer to keep the percentage of tokens allocated to community programs and the total circulating supply a secret. However, in an experiment designed to promote greater engagement, Chainlink is disclosing that the 200 million SXT tokens being claimed will equal 2% of the total SXT supply.

The initial claim period, named "Season Genesis," will begin on May 8 and last 90 days. During this time, 100 million SXT tokens will be claimable by eligible LINK stakers as part of an experiment in community reward programs.

The remaining 2% of the SXT supply—another 100 million tokens—will be reserved for future Chainlink Rewards activations.

To be eligible for the initial SXT claim period, users must have been staking LINK tokens by March 31. This criterion ensures that rewards go both to longstanding stakers and smaller stakers who have shown commitment to the network throughout the year.

Chainlink Build Program Paves Way for New Rewards

The Chainlink Build program plays a crucial role in this new rewards mechanism. This program was created to accelerate growth for both early-stage and established projects within the Chainlink ecosystem.

Projects participating in Build receive various benefits from Chainlink, including go-to-market support and priority access to services. Space and Time joined the Build program in September 2022. Since then, it has developed its decentralized database solution utilizing zero-knowledge proofs to deliver data analytics to smart contracts. In 2024, the project integrated Chainlink Functions to support the delivery of ZK-proven queries on-chain.

Chainlink describes Season Genesis as an "experiment" that will inform how the program evolves. Future plans include a more advanced claiming mechanism incorporating a collection of Chainlink Build projects, aiming to provide deeper integration with the Build ecosystem.

As of Monday morning, the LINK token is priced at $13.66. The token is down 2.8% in the last 24 hours but up 8% over the past month. Despite recent gains, the token remains 74% below its all-time high of $52.70 reached in May 2021.

Chainlink's community engagement experiment comes amid several new airdrop programs being announced for May. Earlier this month, FLOKI teased a RICE token airdrop for active community members. Additionally, ZORA announced its launch on Base Network, teasing a potential airdrop for users who mint the first NFT collection.
