Bitcoin (BTC) maximalist Tuur Demeester has fired back at Input Output Global (IOG) and Cardano (ADA) founder Charles Hoskinson over his recent remarks about the flagship cryptocurrency.

In a video that quickly went viral on social media on Feb. 21, Hoskinson sparked a fresh wave of debate about Bitcoin with his controversial statements. Among other things, he suggested that the crypto industry doesn’t need BTC.

According to the Cardano founder, another digital gold can emerge, and it might be even more secure than Bitcoin. He went on to compare BTC to Windows, suggesting that the largest cryptocurrency could end up like the outdated operating system that lost out to more innovative platforms like iOS and Android.

“If Bitcoin doesn’t figure out how to adapt, pivot and get people's attention, it will slowly die a very boring death,” Hoskinson warned, adding that BTC is losing out on innovation.

In response to Hoskinson’s latest remarks, Demeester highlighted Cardano’s waning influence in the crypto market. According to him, ADA’s market dominance has sharply declined over the last three years.

針對霍斯金森的最新言論，德米斯特強調了卡爾達諾在加密貨幣市場的影響力正在減弱。他表示，ADA 的市場主導地位在過去三年中急劇下降。

“Cardano (ADA) 3 years ago: 10% of Bitcoin’s market cap. Today: 1%,” Demeester stated, adding that the numbers show “Cardano's reality.”

Indeed, ADA has slipped out of the top 10 cryptocurrencies on CoinMarketCap, which is a stark contrast to its former status as one of the crypto giants alongside Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). The native token of Cardano also reflects the broader trend, having fallen by 89.2% from its all-time high in September 2021.

Cardano’s recent endeavors, such as the Chang hard fork that introduced decentralized governance, have failed to substantially boost ADA’s price. Despite the new capabilities, the market’s response has been lukewarm.

The latest clash between Bitcoin and Cardano comes as the two cryptocurrencies continue to be separated by a wide margin in terms of market dominance. While BTC maintains over 45% of the total crypto market cap, Cardano now accounts for less than 1%.
