A MAN has appeared in court today accused of injuring Celtic midfielder Arne Engels with a coin.

Cameron Douglas, 23, is alleged to have assaulted the Belgian international at Ibrox Stadium on January 2 2025.

Rangers were hosting rivals Celtic in a match that day which the home side went on to win 3-0.

According to court papers, Douglas, of the city's Springburn, threw a coin at Mr Engels.

It is claimed that the coin struck Mr Engels on the head to his injury.

No plea was made to the single charge at Glasgow Sheriff Court. The matter was continued until next month.

This game and a more recent derby saw Brendan Rodgers come under criticism for failing to beat Rangers again despite runaway league dominance - with the Hoops lifting the title last weekend.

Pundits said after the Old Firm fixture that Celtic were 'awful' and that perhaps the manager thought it would be 'easy' before they were comfortably ran over.

It was Philippe Clement - before he was sacked in the month following - who masterminded the victory.

Ianis Hagi, a man who had been struggling for game time and form in an up and down couple of years, netted the opener following a slack pass from Celtic's back line.

Robin Propper buried the second goal and the third and final was put way by striker Danilo.

The two sides met again last month with the boys in blue emerging victorious again with a late dagger.

And this Sunday the bitter rivals will square up against one another yet again in a post split Premiership game at Ibrox.
