XRP Called a Hidden Meme Coin — Is This the Beginning of the End?

Apr 16, 2025 at 09:00 pm Crypto Station

XRP is back in the spotlight, this time because of sharp criticism from veteran trader Crashious Clay. In his latest statement, Clay labeled XRP as a “hidden meme coin” and predicted the token is about to experience a sharp crash against Bitcoin. His remarks came after XRP’s price dropped steeply from $2.14 to $1.70 during the first three days of April. According to Clay, the decline isn’t just due to unstable market conditions, but also reflects weak buying interest from new investors and hesitation from whales to re-enter. Clay accused multiple parties of driving the selling pressure — including Ripple’s own team, early investors, and long-term holders taking profits. He even compared XRP to Shiba Inu (SHIB), which once reached a $40 billion market cap before crashing to $4 billion. “There’s no real utility, no on-chain revenue, just hype and fading momentum,” said Clay. He also revealed that he opened a $7.5 million short position on XRP and claimed to have profited over $1 million in just a month. In his view, XRP is an overvalued, high-risk asset. But are his claims entirely accurate? Data shows that despite its volatility, XRP has actually held up better than many major crypto assets. Since the start of the year, XRP is down only 0.58%, while Bitcoin has dropped more than 10%, and Ethereum has fallen 52%. Former skeptics like Raoul Pal and Mike Novogratz have also softened their stances. Analysts such as Bobby A and Zach Rector remain bullish. Rector forecasts XRP could hit $48, while Bobby A claims that today’s $2 price may one day look cheap, much like when XRP traded at $0.30. So, is XRP really just a “meme coin in disguise,” as Clay says? Or is this a moment for patient investors to spot a long-term opportunity? One thing’s certain — the debate over XRP’s value and future isn’t going anywhere soon. #xrp #xrpnews #xrpripplenews #xrpripple
