XRP Has Outperformed Ethereum for Six Straight Months
Apr 18, 2025 at 02:01 am
Ripple's legal win against the SEC boosted XRP's price and investor confidence massively. Trump's return brought clearer crypto rules, making investors and businesses trust XRP even more.
In a surprising turn of events, XRP has managed to outperform Ethereum for six straight months, leaving many in the crypto sphere baffled. However, with Trump’s return promising clearer crypto rules and Standard Chartered experts predicting XRP’s potential takeover of Ethereum by 2028 due to its real-world use, the narrative is shifting.
After a long period of underwhelming performance, one crypto is finally managing to outperform one of its biggest rivals. Since the beginning of 2024, one crypto has managed to outperform another in terms of price growth.
While many assumed it would be Ethereum due to its ties to AI and rising DeFi activity, it’s actually Ripple’s XRP that has been performing better than usual.
After hitting its highest point at $3.39 in November 2023, XRP’s price dropped to as low as $0.10 after a complete wipeout of gains during the SEC lawsuit.
But after a strong recovery that saw XRP regain $3 following the SEC’s decision to drop the lawsuit, it seems like XRP is slowly regaining the investor confidence it had lost.
After a rocky start to the year with a 160% drop, XRP’s price has been steadily increasing. In November 2024, XRP dropped by 18.5% after a rocky start to the year.
However, XRP managed to recover quickly, adding 45.3% to its price in January 2024. After a slight decrease of 4.3% in February, XRP went up by 19.6% in March 2024.
As of April 2024, XRP’s price increased by 14.3%, marking six months of consecutive gains.
This is the first time in history $XRP has outperformed $ETH for more than 5 months in a row

The U.S. regulator announced that it is dropping its four-year-old lawsuit against Ripple and had reached settlements with two executives.
The SEC had sued Ripple in December 2020, claiming that the company illegally sold unregistered securities in the form of its XRP token to raise $1.3 billion from investors.
The regulator also sued former executives Brett McGaugh and Nicole Sanvisens for allegedly aiding and abetting Ripple’s violations of federal securities laws.
The SEC said on Wednesday that it had dismissed its case against Ripple and both executives with prejudice, meaning it cannot be brought again.
The regulator also said that it had reached “fair and appropriate” settlements with McGaugh and Sanvisens to resolve the cases filed against them.
“The introductions of new technologies, such as blockchain and crypto assets, require adapting the legal framework to maintain the balance of investor protection and innovation in capital formation,” said Chairman Jay Clayton.
“In cases where we determine that an adaptation is necessary, we will continue to use the same legal principles and approaches to reach appropriate and efficient outcomes.”
The SEC’s lawsuit had stalled several other cases against crypto firms, as it was seen as a litmus test for how the regulator would handle the burgeoning industry.
The agency had sued several other startups for selling unregistered securities, but those cases were later dropped or settled.
The SEC’s lawsuit had also drawn criticism from some lawmakers, who argued that it was too focused on enforcement and not enough on providing clear rules for crypto firms to follow.
The agency’s decision to drop its case against Ripple and settle with the executives could pave the way for more cooperation between the SEC and the crypto industry.
It remains to be seen what changes Trump will bring to crypto rules during his second term.
However, experts believe that clearer regulations will encourage more investors and businesses to trust XRP and invest in it.
Standard Chartered experts also noted that XRP’s focus on real-world use in global payments could help it pass Ethereum by 2028.
