While having a mountain of coins might seem like more hassle than it's worth, there's a silver lining if you've got some change tucked away.

But hold your horses before you dash to deposit those potentially rare coins - they could be worth a pretty penny.

TikTok's @CoinCollectingWizard highlighted certain £1 and £2 coins which you should keep an eye out for, especially ones with minting errors that could be unexpectedly valuable.

In a viral video with his 164,500 followers, he quizzed: "How much do you think is in this savings tin? It is packed with £1 and £2 coins.

"Now before you take all your coins to the bank, you need to be searching for some of the special designs worth money."

He pointed out a particular William Shakespeare £1 coin from 2014 that's worth noting - it has an incorrect inscription on the edge and could fetch upwards of £50.

Next, he showcased a £2 coin minted to commemorate 100 years since the beginning of the First World War.

He noted: "The error version is missing the words '£2' from the head side.

"The 2014 coin was launched nine years ago to mark 100 years since the start of the First World War."

Featuring Lord Kitchener, the famous face from wartime recruitment posters, it's the coins lacking the '£2' inscription which are the real treasure, potentially raking in £1,000.

The footage, which appeared online several days ago, has already racked up 4,400 likes and 1,300 comments.

One user exclaimed: "Omg I've got the World War One coin!"

Another chimed in with a bit of humour: "Not enough with the cost of living crisis."
