TeraWulf Surpasses Q1 Targets With Strong Mining Performance
May 14, 2024 at 04:55 am
TeraWulf Inc., a Bitcoin mining operation, reported $42.43 million in quarterly revenues, falling short of estimates by 16.95%. However, it exceeded expectations with a loss of 3 cents per share, beating the anticipated 4 cents. TeraWulf mined 1,057 Bitcoin valued at $56.8 million, up from $35.2 million in Q4 2023, despite rising power costs. The company aims to reach approximately 10.2 EH/s by Q3 2024 and 13.3 EH/s by Q1 2025, expanding its infrastructure capacity and exploring partnerships for sustainable computing solutions.

TeraWulf Reports First-Quarter Financial Results, Exceeding Mining Production Targets
New York, NY, April 17, 2024 - TeraWulf Inc. (WULF), a leading Bitcoin mining company, today announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2024, surpassing expectations in key performance indicators.
Financial Performance
Despite a challenging market environment, TeraWulf reported a quarterly loss of 3 cents per share, narrowly missing the analyst consensus estimate of earnings of 4 cents per share. However, the company's quarterly revenue of $42.433 million exceeded the analyst consensus estimate of $51.092 million by approximately 16.95%, demonstrating the company's resilience amid industry headwinds.
Operational Highlights
TeraWulf's Bitcoin mining operations continued to perform strongly during the quarter. The company mined 1,057 Bitcoin across its Lake Mariner and Nautilus Cryptomine facilities, including 6 Bitcoin earned through profit sharing from a hosting agreement. The total value of self-mined Bitcoin amounted to $56.8 million, a significant increase from the $35.2 million reported in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Despite a rise in network difficulty and energy prices, TeraWulf's power cost per self-mined Bitcoin remained within manageable levels. The cost per Bitcoin increased to $15,501 from $10,308 in the fourth quarter of 2023, primarily due to the aforementioned factors.
Management Commentary
"During the first quarter, TeraWulf delivered outstanding results, setting a new benchmark for profitability among publicly traded Bitcoin miners," stated Paul Prager, CEO of TeraWulf. "We also further solidified our financial foundation by reducing debt and augmenting our cash reserves, which will enable us to continue executing our growth strategy."
Outlook
TeraWulf remains confident in its long-term prospects and has outlined its ambitious growth plans. The company anticipates achieving a hashrate of approximately 10.2 EH/s by the third quarter of 2024 and approximately 13.3 EH/s by the first quarter of 2025.
"We are actively exploring opportunities with a wide range of stakeholders, from hyperscalers to enterprise-level clients, to leverage our substantial available infrastructure capacity," added Prager. "With our access to low-cost, zero-carbon power, we are well-positioned to meet the growing demand for sustainable computing solutions."
TeraWulf's dual-pronged strategy, encompassing both Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing, positions the company favorably to capitalize on emerging opportunities in both markets. The company expects to complete construction of Building 4 and commence construction of Building 5 at its Lake Mariner facility, strategically expanding its hashrate while simultaneously developing a robust high-performance computing offering.
Market Reaction
In after-hours trading on Monday, TeraWulf shares declined 1.79% to $2.20, reflecting a modest investor response to the company's financial performance.
