Techies hired and fired: TCS, Infosys, Wipro add 1,400 jobs, but trade turmoil keeps IT headcount in check

Feeling lethargic and sleepy? Hyderabad doctor fixes patient's sleep, reverses BP and triggers 8kg weight loss
As the dust settles on a tumultuous year in the tech sector, one statistic stands out starkly: while tech giants like Meta and Microsoft slashed jobs in record numbers, Indian IT majors displayed remarkable resilience, hiring in bulk throughout the year.
According to a report by Tech Mahindra, which analyzed data from the top five Indian IT companies—TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL Technologies, and Tech Mahindra—a total of 1,400 net new jobs were technically added by the IT majors in the July-September quarter. However, considering that two companies saw a decrease in headcount, the actual number of jobs hired could be higher.
After reporting a decrease in headcount for the second consecutive quarter, HCL Tech saw a slight increase in employee count during the quarter, while Tech Mahindra reported a decrease in headcount.
"Two companies saw a decrease in headcount, while the remaining three companies saw an increase in employee count. Overall, considering that two companies saw a decrease in headcounter, the actual number of jobs hired could be higher," said Rohit Totwani, Analyst at Tech Mahindra.
The report further noted that the IT companies are keeping a close watch on the emerging technologies and trends in the industry.
"The companies are investing heavily in R&D to develop new products and services that can meet the evolving needs of their clients. They are also focusing on hiring talent with in-demand skills, such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data science," added Totwani.
The latest employment data comes as the Indian IT sector continues to face a mixed bag of fortunes. While revenue growth has slowed down in recent quarters due to macroeconomic headwinds, the companies have managed to keep their operating margins under control.
"The companies are also dealing with the challenge of visa restrictions in key markets, such as the U.S. and the U.K. This is putting pressure on the companies to hire local talent in these regions. Despite these challenges, the Indian IT majors are well positioned for further growth in the coming year," concluded Totwani.
The Indian IT sector is a major contributor to the country's economy. It provides employment to millions of people and generates a significant amount of foreign exchange reserves. The sector is also a key driver of technological innovation in India.
The latest employment data from the IT majors will be closely watched by economists and industry analysts for any signs of slowdown in the sector. Any slowdown in the IT sector could have knock-on effects on the broader economy.lethargic and sleepy? Hyderabad doctor fixes patient's BP, reverses diabetes and triggers 8kg weight loss
A Hyderabad doctor has shared an interesting case of a patient who used to feel lethargic and sleepy, had high BP and diabetes, and managed to lose 8 kg despite being on a high-carbohydrate diet.
The patient, in his 50s, visited Dr K Ravinder, Consultant Endocrinologist, Venkateswara Endocrine and Diabetes Care, in December 2023, complaining of excessive sleepiness and fatigue throughout the day.
The doctor began examining the patient and found that he had high BP, diabetes, and a carbohydrate-rich diet, which was impacting his health.
The patient himself was surprised by the diagnosis of diabetes as he had never experienced any symptoms.
The doctor then decided to treat the patient with diet modification, focusing on reducing carbohydrates and increasing protein and fiber intake.
To the patient's astonishment, within three months, his BP and diabetes came under control, and he also experienced a spontaneous weight loss of 8 kg.
The doctor further explained that the patient's body was used to burning carbohydrates for energy, but due to the high carbohydrate intake, the body went into "starvation mode," leading to fatigue, sleepiness, and inability to burn fat.
By modifying the diet to decrease carbohydrates and increase protein and fiber, the body was able to switch to burning fat for energy, which also aided in weight loss.
The doctor's post on X, formerly known as Twitter, highlights the importance of diet and lifestyle modifications in managing chronic health conditions. It also serves as a reminder that the body can heal itself if given the right tools and support.
The post has since gone viral, accumulating over 1.3 million views and 6,400 likes, with users sharing their own experiences with diet and health.
One user commented, "This is amazing. It's incredible how switching up the diet can make such a huge difference in managing chronic conditions."
Another user shared, "I had a similar experience when I finally decided to cut back on sugar and processed food. I felt more energetic and focused, and I lost weight without even trying."
The case study serves as a testament to the role of endocrinologists in optimising hormonal balance and metabolic health for optimal well-being. It underscores the interconnectedness of diet, lifestyle, and chronic disease management in modern medicine.
