CryptoQuant's Ki Young Ju is throwing down some exciting stats: stablecoins are no longer just sidekicks for crypto trades.

The stablecoin market was valued at $30 billion in September 2021, but it has since surged to nearly $166 billion. This massive growth indicates an evolving trend where stablecoins are being adopted for a wider range of use cases. However, currently, only 21% of these stablecoins are being used for exchange transactions.
This presents a starkly different scenario compared to 2021, when over half of the stablecoins were being traded through exchanges. This shift in the integration of stablecoins into financial strategies suggests that they are now being increasingly utilized as a store of value or a remittance tool.
Stablecoins Aren’t Just for Trading Anymore

Stablecoin Inflows, Market Shifts Highlighting Evolving Trends
The founder of CryptoQuant, Ki Young Ju, has highlighted several key events that showcase this shift. During the second week of July 2024, a new all-time high in stablecoin inflows into the market was observed. Of the total stablecoins, Tether (USDT) once again commands the lion’s share of the market with a staggering 75% of these inflows.
Throughout the crypto ecosystem, stablecoins hold particular significance as historically, uptrends in Tether’s market capitalization have often preceded or accompanied significant price movements in Bitcoin.
In June 2024, exchange deposits of USD Coin (USDC) reached a one-year peak at $228 million. This uptick signaled traders utilizing the lower prices to buy crypto assets, thus highlighting the evolving application of stablecoins.
The market capitalization of stablecoins continued to expand, with ratios大体上 maintaining past peaks relative to the market capitalization of Bitcoin. This underscores their role in facilitating trading activity during market shifts as stablecoins serve as buy-side liquidity.
These trends showcase how stablecoins are now being integrated for purposes beyond exchange trading. They have become essential instruments in preserving value, facilitating international money transfers, and providing liquidity for investments.
Moreover, as reported by CNF, stablecoins are disrupting the global financial system, impacting remittances, peer-to-peer payments, and currency trading. Currently, peer-to-peer volume using Tether (USDT) has surpassed levels in America across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).
