The Coin puzzle in Silent Hill 2 is one of the most well-known puzzles in the game, having been present since its initial release on the PlayStation 2. If you've managed to make your way into the Wood Side Apartments in Silent Hill 2, an early-game area, then you'll want to know how to solve this puzzle. This puzzle is present on both 'Standard' and 'Hard' difficulty.
Here's everything you need to know about the Coin Puzzle in Silent Hill 2, including where to find the coins in the game to be able to complete the puzzle.

Where To Find Coins in Silent Hill 2
In total, there are three coins that you'll need to collect throughout the game. You'll need the Man Coin, the Woman Coin, and the Snake Coin. You'll most likely find the Man Coin first, which is located inside the safe in Room 206. There's a small puzzle for this one, which is easy enough, and all you need to do is match the numbers on the wall with the descriptions from the story on another wall and input the code. Once you've entered the code successfully, you'll be given the Man Coin and the Steel Key.
To get the Woman Coin, you'll need to unblock the rubbish chute, and to do that, you'll need to find the Canned Juice in the laundry room, which is accessed by crawling through a gap in the wall to be able to get to Room 312. Then, you'll have to make the journey back to the rubbish chute and put the Canned Juice in there, which will cause it to unlodge and fall to the ground outside the eastern rubbish chute. The eastern rubbish chute is located on 1F between Room 112 and Room 105.
The third and final coin is located inside the pram in the empty pool on the west side of 1F. Whilst you could stand there and kill every enemy (which is unnecessary unless you're going for achievements), it is recommended to just run into the pool, get the coin, and then run straight back out. They will quickly lose interest in you, and you'll be able to return back to get the cabinet to solve the puzzle.
How To Solve The Coin Puzzle in Silent Hill 2
The Coin Puzzle has changed slightly compared to the original, where you can now flip the coins to reveal new images, and there are multiple steps to this puzzle. The puzzle solutions for Standard difficulty and Hard are different, but both will be listed below.
Here's how you solve the puzzle for those playing on Standard difficulty.
From here, the riddle for the cabinet will then change and will say, "The man doth approach." The coins need altering slightly and will instead look like so:
The riddle will then change to "Where once grew a Flower," which will require the coins to be moved again.
The riddle will change for a final time, and you only need to do one thing. However, depending on what coin you put in place, it may change what ending you get. You must place either the Man Coin, Snake Coin, or Woman Coin in the slot just below the riddle text on the Coin Cabinet.
The following solution is for those playing with the puzzles on Hard difficulty.
The riddle will change.
The riddle will change again.
Then, choose either the Man, Snake, or Woman Coin and put it in the slot under the riddle text to complete the puzzle and receive the Apartment 201 Key.
