Ripple (XRP) Lawyer Bill Morgan Slams Senator Cynthia Lummis as a Bitcoin Maximalist

XRP lawyer Bill Morgan has publicly criticized Senator Cynthia Lummis and labeled her among the worst Bitcoin maximalists
XRP lawyer John Morgan has publicly criticized Senator Cynthia Lummis and labeled her among the worst Bitcoin maximalists for her approach to cryptocurrency legislation.
Morgan’s comments came in response to a canceled meeting between Lummis and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
"I've posted many warnings about @SenLummis Some of her comments put her alongside some of the worst Bitcoin maxis around," Morgan stated.
He added that Lummis’ comments were so extreme, they put her in the same camp as the most hardcore Bitcoin maximalists in the industry. The lawyer accused the Wyoming Senator of championing Bitcoin exceptionalism rather than supporting a level playing field for all cryptocurrencies.

The criticism follows Garlinghouse’s public statement about his canceled meeting with Lummis, who serves as Chair of the Digital Assets Subcommittee. The Ripple CEO had planned to discuss pro-crypto legislation around stablecoins and market structure during his visit to Washington, D.C.
"I’d like to thank elected officials for continuing to view the crypto industry as a multi-chain ecosystem," Garlinghouse said.
However, he noted that he was disappointed to announce Lummis has canceled their meeting and refused to reschedule despite his role as CEO of a major cryptocurrency company.
"Senator Lummis, please reconsider your position. As a leader in Congress and Senator from (arguably) the most crypto-friendly state, you should be a leader for ALL cryptocurrencies, not just one."
Lummis has been a key figure in the bipartisan effort to pass the GENIUS Act, which would create a regulatory framework for stablecoins in the United States. The bill, which is co-sponsored by Democratic Senator Jack Reed and Republican Senator Bill Hagerty, passed a procedural vote in the Senate on Friday.
The legislation has faced some delays due to concerns raised by Democratic senators about President Trump’s crypto business interests. However, supporters of the bill, including Lummis, expressed urgency in getting the bill passed.
"It’s a fair target to get the GENIUS Act passed by Memorial Day," Lummis said.
The advancement of stablecoin regulation is a key development in crypto legislation. However, the controversy surrounding Lummis’s approach to different cryptocurrencies has created friction within the industry.
Morgan’s criticism suggests that Lummis’s legislative approach may favor Bitcoin over other cryptocurrencies. This could potentially create regulatory advantages for Bitcoin while disadvantaging altcoins.
