Two £2 rare coins to look out for that could be worth over £1,000
Oct 10, 2024 at 03:30 pm
Tucking into an old collection in your attic could reveal a treasure trove of forgotten items. It's widely known certain rare coins can fetch sums far exceeding their nominal value

A TikTok coin collector has revealed two £2 coins to look out for which could be worth a small fortune.
Revealing the coins in a recent video, @CoinCollectingWizard said: "Can you spot any rare £2 coins with those interesting designs on them? You'll be surprised to know that some are very valuable. Here's some to look for..."
He then discussed the 2014 Lord Kitchener £2 coin, which was issued to mark the centenary of the First World War.
"This coin launched to mark the centenary of the First World War," he said. "The error version is missing the words £2 from the heads side.
"The coin was launched nine years ago to mark 100 years since the start of the First World War and features an image of Lord Kitchener, a significant British military figure featured on wartime government posters.
"Only the variant lacking the inscription is valued at over £1,000."
He also mentioned the 2016 Shakespeare - Tragedies coin, saying: "The writing on the edge of this coin from 2014 should read 'what a piece of work is a man'.
"Tragedies error coins have the wrong inscription for king and country from the 2016 army First World War Centenary £2 coin. This normally sells for around £30 plus, a lovely error coin to find."
Despite its modest value, it's still 15 times more than face value.
The video has since received nearly 200 likes, with many fans taking to the comments section to share they own one of these coins.
One person commented: "How cool would it be to come across Kitchener error."
Another chimed in with: "Yes I have this."
