Teachers' committee to stage protest today

The Primary Teachers' Committee will stage a sit-in protest on Monday from 2 pm to 5 pm in front of the Zilla Parishad headquarters, demanding the cancellation of the March 15, 2024, government resolution (GR), which they claim is harming the rural education system.

The new policy, which came into effect in the last academic year, cancels teacher positions in primary schools with 20 or fewer students and upper primary schools with low enrollment. This has left over 25,000 primary teachers in Maharashtra surplus and deprived many students of education.

The committee is urging the government to reconsider its decision and save the rural education system from collapse.

"We request all the teachers and members of the community to join the protest in large numbers and support the cause of saving our education system," said the committee leaders Vijay Salkar, Ranjit Rathod, Nitin Navale, Sham Rajput, and Shaligram Khiste in a joint statement.

The protest is expected to draw a large crowd as teachers from across the district are planning to participate. The committee leaders are hoping that the government will respond positively to the teachers' demands and take the necessary steps to resolve the crisis in the state's education system.

The protest comes at a time when the state government is facing criticism over its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic downturn. The teachers' protest is likely to put pressure on the government to intervene and provide relief to those who are struggling.

The protest is also a reflection of the deep-seated frustration among teachers over what they see as a disregard for the education sector by the government. Teachers are feeling overburdened and underpaid, and they are worried about the future of education in the state.

The primary teachers' committee has been organizing protests and rallies for several months now, and they have vowed to continue their agitation until the government cancels the March 15, 2024, GR and takes steps to save the rural education system. Their protest is expected to disrupt traffic in the city center, but the committee members have urged the public to cooperate with the teachers and support their cause.
