With an eye toward 10,000 BTC overall, Metaplanet Inc. intends to increase its Bitcoin holdings by 470% this year.

Metaplanet Inc. is planning to increase its Bitcoin (BTC) holdings by 470% in 2025, bringing the total to 10,000 BTC.
The company, which began accumulating Bitcoin in April 2024, will use advanced capital market instruments to achieve its goals, CEO Simon Gerovich said in a statement.
“2024 was a year of transformation for Metaplanet,” Gerovich said. “We became the No. 1 Bitcoin treasury company in Asia, set new records and scaled our Bitcoin treasury. This year, we are focused on execution to deliver even more value to our shareholders.”
According to a December regulatory filing, Metaplanet held 1,761.98 BTC, valued at around 27.2 billion yen ($173.6 million). The company purchased 19 Bitcoins last year at an average price of 11.8 million yen per BTC.
The largest single purchase was 619.70 BTC in December, at a cost of 9.5 billion yen and comprising 35% of the company’s total holdings.
Metaplanet began 2024 with 97.8 BTC, and its holdings increased rapidly, especially in the last quarter. The BTC Yield — a measure of Bitcoin ownership relative to total shares — rose from 42% to 310% in the latest quarter, reflecting the company’s greater Bitcoin purchases relative to share issuances.
Price predictions and market outlook Several Metaplanet’s bulk purchases were made when Bitcoin was trading at levels close to $100,000.
For 2025, price projections from VanEck and Bitwise range between $180,000 and $200,000. Such forecasts have driven companies toward long-term expansion to begin accumulating Bitcoin.
To comply with Tokyo Stock Exchange rules, Metaplanet changed its share structure in mid-2024.
In June, the company consolidated its shares 10-to-1 to meet the minimum trading price requirement of 50,000 yen.
It launched a rights offering in August that increased the share count to 36.27 million and raised 10 billion yen ($63.7 million) from over 13,000 investors.
Later, in December, the company raised additional funds via two bond issues totaling 9.5 billion yen ($60.3 million).
In November, Metaplanet established a stock rights scheme to facilitate upcoming fundraising requirements.
These measures both enhanced its capacity for expanding Bitcoin holdings and strengthened its financial position.
Transition to systematic accumulation On December 18, Metaplanet formally designated its Bitcoin treasury operations as a separate business division.
The move signaled the shift from one-time buys to a planned accumulation strategy.
Proceeds from several funding events have been earmarked specifically for Bitcoin purchases, as stated in the company’s Tokyo Stock Exchange filing.
Metaplanet’s approach is reminiscent of MicroStrategy, which is renowned for its corporate Bitcoin acquisitions. Setting a target of 10,000 BTC demonstrates optimism in Bitcoin’s long-term prospects.
The company’s aggressive strategy highlights a broader trend among corporates making Bitcoin investments. Rising crypto prices and projections of institutional adoption continue to pique interest in Bitcoin as a primary growth driver. Metaplanet’s strategy positions it at the forefront of this movement, as it showcases its commitment to capitalizing on opportunities in the evolving market.
