Mt. Gox, a Japanese crypto exchange that collapsed in 2014, continues to transfer significant amounts into Bitcoin (BTC) as part of a plan to repay its obligations to creditors.

Mt. Gox Moves Another 42587 BTC ($2.84B) as it Continues to Pay Creditors

Bankrupt Japanese crypto exchange Mt. Gox has made another large transfer of Bitcoin (BTC) as part of its plan to repay creditors.

On Tuesday, July 23, Mt. Gox moved 42,587 BTC, currently valued at around $2.85 billion, to an internal wallet. The transfer was spotted by crypto analytics firm Arkham and shared on Twitter.

According to the firm, the exchange also moved an additional 5,110 BTC from another internal wallet, bringing Mt. Gox’s total known holdings to 90,344 BTC, currently worth around $6 billion.

Part of the BTC transferred was likely used to repay creditors.

“Mt. Gox just moved 42,587 $BTC ($2.84B) 20 minutes ago, including:

➡️37,477 $BTC ($2.5B) to a new wallet “15yPUC”, probably to repay creditors;

➡️ 5,110 $BTC ($341M) to another internal cold wallet of Mt. Gox.

Currently, Mt. Gox still holds 101,507 $BTC ($6.78B).“Earlier this month, Mt. Gox announced that it had begun the first round of payments to creditors, distributing Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash to 13,000 creditors. The announcement was accompanied by a massive on-chain transfer of 133,260 BTC from a cold wallet linked to the exchange.

At the time of the announcement, the exchange stated that the payments would be made in installments over several months and that the total amount owed to creditors was around 150,000 BTC.

The exchange’s decision to sell بخشی of its BTC holdings has sparked discussion in the crypto community, with some speculating that the sales could put downward pressure on the price of Bitcoin.

However, Bitcoin’s price has remained relatively stable following the first round of payments, with the crypto trading above $65,000.

After the latest transfers, Mt. Gox’s holdings now stand at 90.344 BTC, valued at around $6.02 billion, according to Arkham.

Bitcoin’s price movements are closely watched by traders and investors, especially in the context of large on-chain transactions. Notably, the latest transfer from Mt. Gox was بخشی of a planned strategy to repay creditors and not a sudden or unexpected event.
