Fintech platform MoonPay has partnered with Mastercard to enable stablecoin payments and spending at over 150 million merchants globally, according to an announcement by the platform.

The partnership will see users around the world able to make payments in stablecoins, or use their crypto via stablecoin-backed virtual Mastercards at any merchant that accepts Mastercard. The unique virtual cards can be utilized via participating crypto wallets, providing a seamless way for a vast majority of consumers to effortlessly transfer funds using stablecoins without any need for conversion into fiat currency.

"We are thrilled to partner with Mastercard to integrate stablecoins into its robust payment ecosystem, significantly increasing crypto's real-world utility and advancing our shared goal of bringing DeFi and Web3 closer to mainstream consumers," said Ivan Nikolčević, co-founder and CEO of MoonPay.

"This partnership is a natural progression of Mastercard's commitment to digital currencies and broader efforts to facilitate seamless and efficient payment experiences. It will also amplify the impact of our vast global network, which includes more than 150 million merchants and billions of cardholders."

MoonPay is a popular fintech platform to buy, swap, and sell cryptocurrencies. The platform is used by millions of consumers and has partnered with some major brands, including Adidas, Atomic Wallet, and Chain Games. Mastercard is a giant in the world of payments, with a network of over 2.4 billion cards and 150 million merchants in 210 countries and territories.

The partnership between MoonPay and Mastercard is expected to help to accelerate the adoption of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. It could also lead to the development of new and innovative products and services for consumers and businesses.
