Milei Year Two: Nuclear Energy, Tax Reduction, and Free Currency Circulation

Dec 12, 2024 at 08:30 pm

Argentine President Javier Milei, a self-proclaimed “anarcho-capitalist,” has laid his administration’s plans for his second year in office.

Milei Year Two: Nuclear Energy, Tax Reduction, and Free Currency Circulation

Argentine President Javier Milei announced his administration’s plans for the second year in office, which include slashing 90% of national taxes, introducing a currency competition scheme, and exploring nuclear energy.

Milei, who describes himself as an “anarcho-capitalist,” took office last year and inherited a devastated economy. However, under his leadership, Argentina has achieved a surplus for the first time in 123 years and reduced monetary issuance to zero.

In his speech, Milei highlighted several key measures, including a substantial tax reduction that would see 90% of the national taxes slashed. This move aims to ease the heavy tax burden on Argentines and restore the states’ authority to set their taxes.

Moreover, Milei announced that a free currency circulation program will be implemented in 2025. This measure would legalize transactions in the currency of choice for Argentines, opening up possibilities for bitcoin (BTC) circulation and payments in the cryptocurrency.

“From now on, every Argentine will be able to buy, sell and invoice in dollars or in the currency they consider,” Milei stated during his speech.

This initiative aligns with Milei’s previous statements, where he noted that in addition to bitcoin, Argentines could “also use other units such as WTI, BTU, and the one most appropriate for your business.”

As reported by Cointelegraph, Milei had previously expressed interest in bitcoin serving as “a monetary good that competes with the peso.”

Furthermore, Milei announced the elimination of currency controls next year, enabling Argentines to freely purchase any amount of U.S. dollars or other currencies. This measure is expected to bolster the national economy by attracting international capital and benefiting domestic industries.

In his speech, Milei also touched upon the exploration of nuclear energy opportunities and the deepening of the “Deep Chainsaw” program, which aims to curb public spending.

“We will deepen the Deep Chainsaw program, exploring opportunities in nuclear energy and proposing a plan that includes the construction of new reactors,” Milei stated.

“We will also research into emerging technologies for small or modular reactors while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency,” he added.
