Renowned fingerstyle guitarist Mike Dawes brings his signature one-man-band approach to Sleep Token's "Euclid" reimagining the emotional track as a powerful acoustic instrumental.
Renowned fingerstyle guitarist Mike Dawes brings his signature one-man-band approach to Sleep Token’s ‘Euclid’, reimagining the emotional track as a powerful instrumental.
Known for his virtuoso performances and intricate arrangements, across a vast array of musical styles, in this new rendition, Dawes weaves magic with his deft harmonics, layered tapping, and surging dynamics.
The new version is a tribute to Sleep Token’s genre-blending artistry and a original reinterpretation of the song.
“I’ve been a fan of Sleep Token for quite a while now since, fun fact, my ex-college housemate from 15 years ago went on to produce some of their early work!” says Dawes. “They have such a unique sound with stunning melodies and arrangements that translate perfectly to acoustic guitar. After I finished touring the U.S. with Periphery and they had the opportunity to come over to the U.K. for RADAR, I wanted to pick a song to add my own spin on and it felt like the perfect time to take on ‘Euclid’ as a small tribute to Sleep Token, who were a main stage act at the festival in 2022 and I was on the same bill a year later.
“I learned the song quickly and the band were happy for me to share it. We debuted the song at the festival and the live response was incredible. The melodies work so well in this CGDGAD tuning and I’ve really fallen in attendance with this arrangement of the song. I hope it strikes a chord with Sleep Token fans and those who enjoy my music.”
Widely regarded as one of the world’s most creative acoustic guitarists, in addition to his original music, Dawes is known for his stunning covers of songs by Gotye, Metallica, and John Mayer, which have collectively amassed millions of views and praise from fans and musicians alike.
With ‘Euclid’, he continues to bridge progressive rock with modern fingerstyle, proving that great songs transcend instrumentation.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Dawes will be heading out on a Summer tour. The tour will kick off on July 24 at The Triple Door in Seattle and will feature a stop at John Petrucci’s Guitar Universe on August 7.
