Kia India has finally revealed the new Carens Clavis, the more premium version of the Carens. It will go on sale in May 2025. Bookings for the MPV will begin at midnight on May 9 and it can be booked by paying a token amount of ₹25,000. The Carens Clavis can be booked by booking it on Kia’s website or through its dealerships.
The Carens Clavis looks slightly different than the Carens thanks to its Digital Tiger face design, ice cube LED headlamps, boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, new alloy wheels and connected LED taillamps. It also gets a panoramic sunroof, while the Carens comes with a single-pane sunroof only.
Step inside, and the Carens Clavis comes with two 12.25-inch screens with one for the infotainment and the other for the virtual cluster. The former will also have wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Like the Carnival, the Carens Clavis also has a small touchscreen that can be swapped between AC and music controls and is flanked by two knobs. In the centre console, it also has buttons for the ventilated seats, drive modes, parking sensors and the camera. It also gets a USB-A, USB-C and a 12-volt socket.
The Carens Clavis gets an electronic parking brake, while the Carens comes with a manual one. Both the Carens and Carens Clavis get a blue and beige interior theme, but the Clavis will have more premium textures and materials. The design of the dashboard is also different in the Clavis, shared with the new Syros. The two-spoke steering wheel too is shared with the Syros but in the Clavis, it doesn’t get the Traction and Drive Mode buttons. Safety features include an ADAS suite with 20 features, six airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, three-point seatbelts with reminders, ISOFIX mounts for the second row and disc brakes on all four wheels.
The powertrains of the Carens Clavis are the same as the Carens. It gets a 113 bhp, 144 Nm, 1.5-litre petrol engine, a 158 bhp, 253 Nm, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 114 bhp, 250 Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol only comes with a 6-speed manual, while the diesel also gets a 6-speed automatic transmission. The turbo-petrol comes with a 6-speed iMT, 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and a 6-speed manual. The Carens never had the manual with the turbo-petrol engine.
Prices for the Carens Clavis are expected to be announced later this month. It will rival the Toyota Innova Hycross (₹19.09 - 31.34 lakh), Maruti Suzuki Invito (₹25.51 - 29.22 lakh) and BYD eMax 7 (₹26.90 - 29.90 lakh).
