Internet Computer Mainnet Deploys Sepolia USDC Token for Enhanced DeFi Capabilities
May 06, 2024 at 07:33 am
The test version of the ckETH minter on the ICP mainnet has been upgraded with the Sepolia version of the USDC token. Users can obtain Sepolia ETH and USDC from online faucets and use them to mint ckETH and ckUSDC. DFINITY Foundation is developing technology for the Internet Computer blockchain, and the minter canister will use a portion of the ckSepoliaETH to cover transfer transactions on the Sepolia testnet.

The Internet Computer Mainnet's ckETH Minter Deploys Sepolia USDC Token for Enhanced DeFi Capabilities
Zurich, Switzerland - [Date] - The continuously developing Internet Computer blockchain platform has implemented a significant upgrade to its ckETH minter on the mainnet, featuring the incorporation of the Sepolia version of the USDC token. This enhancement enables users to utilize the Sepolia ETH and USDC tokens obtained from online faucets to mint their corresponding ckETH and ckUSDC tokens.
The DFINITY Foundation, the driving force behind the Internet Computer blockchain's technological advancements, has introduced this minter canister, which will leverage a portion of the ckSepoliaETH to facilitate transfer transactions on the Sepolia testnet. This provides developers with an opportunity to explore and experiment with ckUSDC, facilitating conversions between ERC20 tokens and their ck-twin counterparts within their decentralized applications (dapps).
It is important to note that while ckETH is not a prerequisite for depositing USDC, it is essential for withdrawing ckUSDC and receiving USDC in return. For reference, the canister IDs of the minter are readily available.
Currently, the system lacks a user-friendly front-end interface, necessitating familiarity with dfx calls, particularly for the finalization step. Collaborative bug reporting is strongly encouraged to contribute to the system's robustness and efficiency.
In June of the previous year, a substantial upgrade to the ICP network expanded support for all canister smart contracts, empowering users to hold and transfer ICP tokens. DFINITY's vision encompasses the direct integration of the Bitcoin network with the Internet Computer, unlocking the potential for smart contract utilization on Bitcoin via the innovative Chain Key cryptography.
The ckUSDC Sepolia, the digital replica of USDC on the Internet Computer, serves as an exploratory step towards revolutionizing DeFi. The roadmap includes the future introduction of ckERC20, further expanding the ecosystem's capabilities.
To engage with the Sepolia ETH and USDC tokens and initiate the minting of ckETH and ckUSDC, users are advised to interact with these tokens directly. While depositing USDC does not require ckETH, it is crucial for withdrawing ckUSDC.
DFINITY Foundation, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to the ongoing development of the Internet Computer blockchain platform. Users are encouraged to acquire Sepolia ETH and USDC from online faucets to engage with the Sepolia versions of these tokens and initiate the minting of ckETH and ckUSDC. Developers are invited to explore ckUSDC's potential, facilitating conversions between ERC20 tokens and their ck-twin counterparts within their dapps. The minter canister allocates a portion of the ckSepoliaETH to cover transfer transactions on the Sepolia testnet. Although the project remains in the developmental phase and may encounter occasional bugs, user feedback is invaluable for continuous improvement. DFINITY's long-term goal involves integrating smart contracts on Bitcoin using Chain Key cryptography, aiming to transform DeFi on the Internet Computer platform.
