Hashdex Files Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF Proposal With the SEC, Targets Summer Launch

Hashdex, a digital asset management firm, has filed a proposal with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the creation of an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that would provide investors with exposure to both Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The ETF, dubbed Hashdex Nasdaq Crypto Index US ETF, is intended to reflect the composition of the Nasdaq Crypto Index, offering investors a vehicle to participate in the performance of the two leading cryptocurrencies.

This move aligns with a broader trend of integrating digital assets into conventional financial instruments, potentially expanding the accessibility of cryptocurrencies to a wider investor base.

According to the filing, the ETF's composition mirrors the Nasdaq Crypto Index, with Bitcoin and Ethereum comprising approximately 70.54% and 29.46% of the fund, respectively.

The ETF will employ a market-cap-weighted strategy, reflecting the index's broader representation of the cryptocurrency market.

The fund will be custodied by Coinbase Custody Trust Company and BitGo Trust Company, and it will maintain cash reserves.

The ETF may consider adding additional digital assets in the future, subject to SEC approval.

This ETF filing comes at a time when the regulatory landscape appears favorable, with the SEC having already approved Bitcoin spot ETFs and anticipating the launch of Ethereum ETFs in the U.S. market.

During a recent appearance before a Senate committee, SEC Chair Gary Gensler indicated that Ethereum ETFs could start trading by this summer.
