Ethereum (ETH) Spot ETF Applications Approval Odds Increased From 25% to 75%

Some important evidence supported the chances for Ethereum spot ETF product approval. As we know, more than half a dozen Ethereum spot ETF applications

Ethereum (ETH) Spot ETF Applications Approval Odds Increased From 25% to 75%

Several applications for Ethereum spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are pending approval by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The approval of a Bitcoin spot ETF in January sparked speculation about the possibility of an approval for an Ethereum spot ETF.

However, the SEC has raised questions about the classification of Ethereum as a commodity, which could complicate the approval process.

According to a report by Blockworks, Joseph Edwards, head of research at Enigma Securities, stated that exchanges planning to list spot Ethereum ETFs are being asked by the SEC to update their filings.

This request, Edwards said, suggests that the SEC may be reconsidering its stance on opposing the approval of an Ethereum spot ETF.

"Opposing the ETH ETF after the BTC one was approved always seemed like an odd case for the SEC to try to push, unless they were willing to open up questions on Ethereum’s securities status more broadly, and the call has likely come in somewhere to not take that fight,” Edwards said.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg ETF analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart shared their analysis on the pending Ethereum spot ETF applications in a commentary on May 20.

They reported that the odds of approval have increased to 75%, up from 25%.

"This is a funny one as everyone assumed these would be denied, but we're hearing chatter that the SEC may be doing a 180 on this (increasingly political issue),” the analysts said.

The analysts also highlighted the potential role of political pressure in the approval process.

These speculations have contributed to a bullish sentiment among Ethereum investors, with the coin's trading price surging by 21% within 24 hours.

At press time, Ethereum is trading at $3,801, up by 31.5% over the past 7 days.
