The Eagles' tight end situation has been closely monitored in recent weeks, with most of the attention focused on Dallas Goedert and his status on the team next season. Based on comments from an NFL insider on Friday, the team could add a new tight end to its roster—a move that might send Goedert to another team this weekend.
On “The Anthony Gargano Show,” NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo said the Eagles could select a tight end in the second round Friday evening and noted that a Goedert trade is possible.
“I think today they go tight end,” Garafolo said. “Is Dallas Goedert on the roster after this weekend? It’s a coin flip. Some teams that were trying to get a tight end in the first round didn’t land one—and I think those teams might now explore the possibility of trading for and extending Goedert. I’m keeping an eye on that today. Mark Andrews is another guy who could move, but I’d say Goedert is more likely than Andrews to be traded in the next couple of days.”
Garafolo added that LSU's Mason Taylor could be selected early Friday evening, leaving options such as Bowling Green's Harold Fannin Jr., Miami's Elijah Arroyo and Texas' Gunnar Helm as potential replacements for Goedert.
Last season, Goedert caught 42 passes for 496 yards and 2 touchdowns before missing seven games with knee and hamstring injuries. He returned for the regular-season finale against the Giants and produced a strong playoff performance, catching 17 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown en route to the team's Super Bowl 59 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Entering the final year of his contract, Goedert is slated to earn $11.7 million but has been seeking an extension. With both sides unable to reach an agreement, the tight end is on the trade block, and teams such as the Giants have inquired about what it would take to acquire him.
