DRI busts a smuggling ring at Nhava Sheva, seizing Pakistani-origin goods worth crores. Operation Deep Manifest exposes complex networks evading import bans.

DRI Seizure at Nhava Sheva Port: Unmasking Pakistani Goods Smuggling

In a dramatic turn of events at Nhava Sheva Port, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has once again made headlines. Operation Deep Manifest has uncovered a sophisticated smuggling operation involving Pakistani-origin goods, highlighting the ongoing challenges in enforcing import bans and safeguarding national security.

Operation Deep Manifest Unveils Elaborate Smuggling Scheme

The latest bust involved the seizure of 28 containers loaded with a staggering 800 metric tonnes of Pakistani cosmetics and dry dates, valued at a cool ₹12 crore. This follows a previous seizure in July where 39 containers of goods worth ₹9 crore were impounded. It seems someone was really trying to sneak these goods past customs!

DRI's investigation revealed a complex network involving individuals from Pakistan, India, and the UAE. The smugglers attempted to bypass the ban on direct and indirect imports of Pakistani goods (imposed after the unfortunate Pahalgam terror attacks on May 2, 2025) by routing the shipments through Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. The goods were then misdeclared as UAE-origin products. Clever, but not clever enough!

Key Players and Modus Operandi

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case: a Dubai-based supplier and a customs broker. The Dubai-based supplier allegedly facilitated the transshipment from Pakistan using fabricated invoices, operating on a commission basis and utilizing multiple firms to disguise the financial trail. The customs broker is accused of helping misdeclare the country of origin for the cosmetics consignment.

Implications for National Security

DRI officials emphasized that such unlawful imports not only violate government policy but also pose a serious threat to national security. The financial linkages with entities in Pakistan are of particular concern. Operation Deep Manifest underscores DRI’s commitment to protecting India’s economic and national security by preventing the misuse of trade channels and enforcing customs and trade laws.

My Two Cents: A Game of Cat and Mouse

It's clear that smuggling operations are becoming increasingly sophisticated, requiring constant vigilance and innovative strategies from law enforcement agencies. The DRI's success in Operation Deep Manifest is commendable, but it also highlights the need for continued investment in technology, training, and international cooperation to stay one step ahead of these crafty smugglers. This whole situation feels like a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, doesn't it?

Wrapping Up with a Wink

So, there you have it – another intriguing chapter in the ongoing saga of smuggling at Nhava Sheva Port. It just goes to show, where there's a ban, there's a way... or at least, someone trying to find one! Until next time, stay curious, stay informed, and maybe think twice before buying suspiciously cheap dates.
