The Dogecoin Team Issues Critical Reminder to Upgrade Nodes to Version 1.14.9
Dec 13, 2024 at 09:36 pm
The Dogecoin team has issued a critical reminder to the community to upgrade their nodes to the most recent version, 1.14.9

Dogecoin Core developers are urging the community to upgrade their nodes to the latest version, 1.14.9, to ensure the network's health and security.
Highlighting the critical nature of the update, the official Dogecoin X account tweeted: "The best time to upgrade your node to 1.14.9 was almost 2 weeks ago, when it was released. The second best time is now."
The latest release, Dogecoin Core 1.14.9, carries crucial fixes for bugs that can affect the network's performance and reliability. This update, which was released on Dec. 1, addresses vulnerabilities that Dogecoin inherited from the Bitcoin and Namecoin repositories.
In line with this, Mishaboar, a prominent member of the Dogecoin community, is urging Dogecoin node operators to upgrade to version 1.14.9 to enhance the network's reliability.
A critical warning is issued
In an X post that delves into the details, Michi Lumin, a Dogecoin Core developer, further emphasizes the significance of the latest update.
According to Lumin, the 1.14.9 update, which was released two weeks ago, saw a good uptake. However, a substantial number of node operators have not yet applied the update, thinking that their current setup is sufficient.
While developers can release updates, it is the community's responsibility to implement them, ensuring the network's robustness and security.
This follows recent reports that a hacker exploited a DOGE bug, crashing 69% of nodes and revealing a vulnerability that could have brought the entire network down. The total number of nodes reported was 647, which decreased to 247 after the incident.
In X Community Notes, X users refuted the inaccuracy, stating that the Dogecoin network has over 14,000 active nodes and that the flaw in question has been addressed in the latest Dogecoin Core release 1.14.9.
Lumin addressed the recent FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) in the X post, stating: "The numbers being talked about, while sensational, aren’t wholly accurate. But this should send a message: If you’re running a node full time, you need to keep it updated."
As reported in an earlier X post, shortly after the 1.14.9 release, Dogecoin developer Inevitable 360 issued an urgent alert to Dogecoin node operators regarding a vulnerability disclosure that is addressed by the update.
