Mishaboar, a prominent figure in the DOGE community, took to Twitter on Monday to highlight the risks associated with keeping seed phrases in password management services like LastPass. He described these services as “centralized password services” and “an abomination.”

According to Mishaboar, these services are inherently vulnerable to breaches, rendering them unsuitable for safeguarding sensitive information like seed phrases. He urged users to opt for storing their seed phrases offline in several secure locations.

Furthermore, he stated that any seed phrase previously saved in an online password manager should be considered compromised, and users must swiftly move their Dogecoin to a new wallet.

The developer also touched upon the challenges involved in ensuring a secure environment for managing seed phrases, even with offline devices. He noted that compromised devices can capture data and transmit it later once an internet connection is established.

To address this issue, Mishaboar recommended using a freshly set-up Raspberry Pi with a clean operating system and no network connections to type and store the seed phrase on an offline USB drive. After completing this step, the SD card should be completely wiped to eliminate any potential threats.

The level of security employed should correspond to the value of the cryptocurrency holdings, Mishaboar noted. He highlighted that even small amounts of cryptocurrency can appreciate significantly over time, especially in the volatile realm of digital assets, underscoring the need for robust security measures to protect these holdings.

As Dogecoin and other digital assets continue to gain popularity and value, users must adopt stringent measures to safeguard their investments, the DOGE contributor asserted.

Mishaboar's warning comes amid increasing attention to cryptocurrency security practices. Recently, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin penned a post on Farcaster, cautioning users against cryptocurrency scams masquerading as "official" entities.
