Core Foundation Integrates Dual Staking Architecture with Maple Finance, Attracting Over 1,200 BTC in Deposits
May 01, 2025 at 09:33 pm
Core Foundation, the non-profit organization developing open-source infrastructure for the Core chain, has announced the full integration of its Dual Staking architecture with Maple Finance.
This integration enables institutional clients to seamlessly earn yield on Bitcoin (BTC) without requiring any asset bridging or wrapping, as Core Foundation Thursday.
The partnership, which was initally announced in June, has already attracted more than 1,200 BTC in deposits.
Institutions can now access Maple’s Bitcoin Yield product, where BTC is held in segregated custody vaults at BitGo or Copper and deployed through Core’s native staking interface.
Instead of moving Bitcoin off-chain or wrapping it into synthetic assets, the setup allows institutions to directly stake BTC on the Bitcoin chain, in tandem with Core’s native token, CORE.
The deposits are used to borrow USDC at low loan-to-value ratios, acquire CORE, and subsequently stake both BTC and CORE within the Core validator ecosystem.
This “Dual Staking” model generates yield from validator emissions and gas fees, which is expected to translate into annual returns ranging from 4% to 8%.
The rewards are then converted back into BTC and paid out to lenders in kind, ensuring that institutional participants maintain their native Bitcoin exposure throughout the process.
"This partnership marks a major step in the institutionalization of Bitcoin staking," said Hong Sun, an institutional contributor to Core Foundation. "Institutions are demanding simplicity, custody compatibility, and clear yield mechanics, all of which our collaboration with Maple delivers."
"We're excited to see the first batch of institutions join the Maple platform to experience, firsthand, the benefits of efficient and scalable Bitcoin yield generation," added Joe Flanagan, product lead at Maple. "Core's technology was integral in allowing us to build a yield-bearing Bitcoin product that's both intuitive and institution-ready."
The partnership also serves as a prelude to the launch of lstBTC, an upcoming liquid staked Bitcoin token that will facilitate the capital-efficient use of staked BTC across trading and DeFi applications while maintaining custodial security.
As the cryptocurrency ecosystem evolves, institutions are increasingly seeking out on-chain yield opportunities to maximize their capital utilization.
In contrast to traditional financial markets, where institutions typically lend to generate yield, the Bitcoin ecosystem is uniquely positioned to enable yield generation through its native staking model.
This partnership between Core Foundation and Maple Finance showcases the growing demand for such institutional yield strategies as Bitcoin transitions from a non-yielding asset to a productive component of decentralized finance infrastructure.
