Coinbase Adds Meme Coin Floki (FLOKI) to Its Listing Roadmap

Nov 16, 2024 at 05:36 am

Floki (FLOKI) surged over 21% in one hour as Coinbase posted about upcoming trading support for the $2.7 billion meme coin.

Coinbase Adds Meme Coin Floki (FLOKI) to Its Listing Roadmap

Coinbase has added meme coin Floki (FLOKI) to its listing roadmap, coming two days after the largest U.S. centralized crypto exchange announced support for the meme coin $PEPE.

Floki (FLOKI) surged over 21% in one hour as Coinbase posted about upcoming trading support for the $2.7 billion meme coin. The timing of the news also coincided with a market-wide recovery, bolstering FLOKI’s price hike.

It marks the second time that Coinbase has added any of crypto’s older meme tokens. On Nov. 13, the exchange integrated the Pepe-The-Frog-inspired meme coin $PEPE. According to data, PEPE surged to a new all-time high shortly after the listing.

Social media users speculated that a relaxed regulatory environment under former President Donald Trump’s administration steered crypto businesses toward more expansive listing decisions.

Coinbase’s main competitor, Robinhood U.S., also listed PEPE alongside Coinbase. Binance has listed several meme coins in the past, although some of its choices were met with controversy.

Binance recently announced spot listings for newer low-cap memes like $PNUT and $NEIRO. Reactions to the platform’s additions ranged from outrage at supposed insider trading to bullish rallying cries calling for more meme coin exposure.

As cryptocurrency excitement builds due to Bitcoin’s (BTC) blast to a $1.8 trillion market cap, memes and altcoins have been like rocket fuel. Memes on Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) reached new highs as Bitcoin price reclaimed levels above $90,000.

While the largest meme coins may run on Ethereum, such as Dogecoin (DOGE) and PEPE, staggering liquidity has flowed into Solana's ecosystem throughout 2023.

Solana's memes, like Dogwifhat (WIF) and Bonk (BONK), saw service providers create Pump.fun, an on-chain launchpad for memecoins. Users can mint thousands of tokens using the platform, and Pump.fun generated $100 million in revenue within its first few months.
