Cardano (ADA) is Stepping into Its Next Chapter

Jun 12, 2025 at 09:28 pm

This move to strengthen the network will see the platform become more scalable, usable, and secure.

Cardano (ADA) is Stepping into Its Next Chapter

Input Output (IO) is pulling back the curtain on the next chapter of Cardano, revealing a fresh roadmap and a new anti-grinding measure.

As part of its effort to make Cardano more scalable, usable, and secure, IO is highlighting how the network’s consensus can be strengthened.

Grinding attacks are a form of malicious activity in which a bad actor plays with the blockchain to increase their chances of adding new blocks. In Cardano’s proof-of-stake system, network leaders (known as stake pool operators) take turns adding new blocks to the chain. However, a grinder might try to stay on-chain for longer by pausing their node and returning to the network at a later stage.

To avoid this, Cardano is establishing an anti-grinding feature in its node improvements. It makes such attacks more difficult and provides clear sailing to the honest participants, leading to faster times and stronger finality.

This upgrade also ties into a broader strategy to improve Cardano’s entire node setup.

Local nodes for users who want to interact with the blockchain without trusting third-party providers.

Cardano scales with new memory upgrades, such as the UTXO set on disk, utilizing LSM trees.

Fairer rewards for smaller stake pool operators.

Tiered pricing to better manage network congestion.

Together, this enables Cardano to remain decentralized, secure, and prepared to welcome billions of users.

A More Diverse Operation

Another key part of this upgrade is node diversity. Today, the majority of Cardano is operating on a single node implemented in Haskell. While powerful, this creates a single point of failure.

Thus, IO introduced Project Acropolis—a project to redesign the node in a more modular and Rust-based manner. It simplifies the contribution of new teams and also makes the network more resilient in the event of a node failure, as other nodes can continue the network.

They held workshops earlier this year where they could match developers with organizations who could then report on their progress, test different node setups, and create tools to strengthen the platform.
