BNB Greenfield Blockchain Set for Pawnee Hardfork
Mar 27, 2024 at 06:34 am
The BNB Greenfield blockchain, powered by BNB Coin, is set to undergo the Pawnee hardfork. The testnet hardfork is anticipated on March 27th, followed by the mainnet hardfork on April 10th. BNB, the native token of the BNB Chain ecosystem, facilitates trading fee reductions, transaction fee payments, and various applications within the ecosystem, including gaming, DApps, token sales, and real-world purchases.

BNB Greenfield Blockchain Gears Up for Pawnee Hardfork
Binance Coin's (BNB) underlying blockchain, BNB Greenfield, is poised for its "Pawnee" hardfork, a major software upgrade that will enhance its capabilities.
Testnet and Mainnet Rollout Timeline
The testnet hardfork is scheduled to occur at block 6,623,127, tentatively set for March 27th, 7:00 UTC. The mainnet hardfork will follow at block 6,239,529, approximately on April 10th, 7:00 UTC.
BNB: The Engine of the BNB Chain Ecosystem
BNB serves as the native currency for the BNB Chain ecosystem, which includes the BNB Beacon Chain and BNB Smart Chain. Its functionalities extend beyond powering the Binance exchange:
- Reduced Trading Fees: BNB holders receive discounts on trading fees on Binance.
- Transaction Fee Payment: BNB is used to settle transaction costs on both the BNB Beacon Chain and BNB Smart Chain.
- Blockchain Integration: BNB powers games and decentralized applications (DApps) within the BNB Chain ecosystem.
- Platform Participation: It facilitates participation in token sales hosted on Binance Launchpad and provides liquidity on Binance Liquid Swap.
- Real-World Utility: BNB finds applications in online and in-store purchases, as well as travel bookings on platforms like Travala.com.
BNB's Evolving Forms
Since the launch of the BNB Smart Chain in September 2020, BNB has existed in three forms:
- BNB BEP-2: Resides on the BNB Beacon Chain.
- BNB BEP-20: Operates on the BNB Smart Chain.
- BNB ERC-20: Exists on the Ethereum network.
The Pawnee hardfork is intended to further optimize the BNB Greenfield blockchain and unlock additional value for BNB holders and the wider BNB Chain community.
