Bitcoin Slips Below $64k, Liquidating Crypto-Bullish Positions Worth Millions
Apr 25, 2024 at 08:45 pm
The cryptocurrency market experienced a significant decline, with Bitcoin dropping below $64,000 and over $209 million in crypto-bullish positions liquidated. The wider crypto market also slumped, with the combined market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies falling by 4.7%. All top 10 cryptocurrencies faced losses, with Toncoin suffering the most significant drop of 10.1%.

Bitcoin Price Slumps Below $64,000, Liquidating Millions in Crypto-Bullish Positions
The cryptocurrency market experienced a significant decline on Thursday, with Bitcoin (BTC) leading the selloff. As of this morning, the world's largest cryptocurrency had fallen below $64,000, marking a 4% drop from the previous day, according to data from Coingecko. The decline wiped out over $209 million in crypto-bullish positions.
The broader crypto market also witnessed a downturn, with the combined market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies dropping by 4.7% overnight. Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, followed suit, plummeting by 5.3% over the past 24 hours, with its price hovering around $3,090.
Among the top 10 cryptocurrencies, Toncoin (TON) experienced the most significant loss, dropping 10.1% over the past 24 hours and trading at $5.21.
The market dip coincided with a decline in inflows into Blackrock's spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), which ended a 71-day streak of consistent inflows. The ETF had previously broken into the top ten for the longest ETF daily inflow streaks since 2004.
According to CoinGlass data, Bitcoin spot ETFs outflows hit $120.6 million after three consecutive days of inflows. This follows the official approval of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in Hong Kong, with a trading date set for April 30. Experts estimate that the crypto market could receive up to $25 billion if the exchange-traded funds are opened to investors in mainland China.
The market's decline occurred despite the much-anticipated Bitcoin Halving event, which took place over the weekend. This event, which typically has a bullish impact in the long term, has also been associated with short-term losses. Since Bitcoin's high of $65,230 on the day of the halving, the cryptocurrency has lost 2% and dipped below $64,000.
It is worth noting that long positions are derivative contracts that allow investors to speculate on the rise in the price of an asset. If a long position is liquidated, it indicates that the trader has lost the bet and their position has been closed.
During the market downturn, a new Bitcoin token standard called Runes was released. These tokens accounted for over 81% of transactions on Tuesday and are essentially meme coins for Bitcoin. Their launch created a frenzy that congested the network.
As the cryptocurrency market navigates this recent setback, it is crucial for investors to remain informed and exercise caution in their trading decisions.
