Binance Suspends ETH and L2 Token Transfers Ahead of Ethereum Pectra Upgrade

May 08, 2025 at 10:02 am

On May 7, Binance will temporarily halt the transfer of Ethereum (ETH) and related Layer 2 tokens to support the highly anticipated Ethereum Pectra update.

May 7 will see Binance temporarily suspend the transfer of Ethereum (ETH) and related Layer 2 tokens to support the highly anticipated Ethereum Pectra update.

The exchange will shut down services at 09:45 UTC to adjust to the changes in the Ethereum network. This closure will affect deposits and withdrawals of tokens on Ethereum and Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync Era, Base, Manta, Starknet, Polygon, Metis, Scroll, and Celo.

The exchange will handle all technical needs for the upgrade and will reopen withdrawals and deposits once the network has stabilized. No further announcements will be made as services resume.

The Pectra update will introduce Prague and Electra development path changes to improve Layer 2 usability, scalability, and efficiency. Among the changes are cheaper transactions on Arbitrum, Optimism, and other Layer 2s, increased validator limits, smarter wallet interactions, and improvements to development tools.

The update is expected to bring lower transaction fees on Arbitrum, Optimism, and other Layer 2s, smart wallets, and many other improvements to the network.

Ahead of the update, Ethereum’s price resistance was close to $1,800, which is crucial for determining the direction of the cryptocurrency. This price point has been a key resistance level throughout 2024, and breaking through it could pave the way for a continuation of the bullish trend.

After a period of consolidation, the price is showing signs of breaking out from a symmetrical triangle pattern, which is a technical indicator that can suggest the beginning of a new trend.

In the case of Pectra, the hype could see the price of Ethereum retest the $2,000 level, which was previously reached in early 2022.

The Pectra upgrade is expected to increase network efficiency and attract more adoption and investment into the Ethereum ecosystem.

With the upgrades promised by Pectra, many investors and market observers predict that this could be a turning point for Ethereum in the face of competition in the cryptocurrency market. The upgrade will reportedly strengthen Ethereum’s position as a leader in blockchain technology and decentralized finance applications.
