Aretha Franklin Proof Silver Coin Released by Perth Mint

Music legend Aretha Franklin is now immortalized on a silver coin from Perth Mint.

The coin, released Sept. 10, is part of a music-themed series from the Perth Mint and is struck in Proof .9999 fine silver for Tuvalu.

The coin is available in a limited mintage of 5,000 pieces and retails for $154 Australian, though it is available at a lower price when exported.

Franklin, known as the Queen of Soul, had 20 No. 1 hits during her musical career, which spanned nearly six decades.

She was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and earned 18 Grammy Awards during her lifetime.

Her 1967 recording of Otis Redding’s “Respect” became her signature song and an anthem for female empowerment.

The coin’s reverse features an image of Franklin performing, set against the suggestion of a vinyl record in the background.

The design also includes the trademark for ARETHA! and a 2024 copyright to the estate of Aretha Franklin.

The obverse of the coin features the Jody Clark effigy of King Charles III.

The coin weighs 31.107 grams and measures 40.9 millimeters in diameter.
