The Allure of the Trader's Gilded Brutosaur

Oct 28, 2024 at 03:04 am

In a surprising twist for World of Warcraft (WoW), Blizzard's newest in-game mount, the Trader's Gilded Brutosaur, has sparked such intense demand

The Allure of the Trader's Gilded Brutosaur

World of Warcraft (WoW) players are flocking to obtain the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur, a limited-time mount that has sparked intense demand, leading to a scarcity of WoW Tokens on the auction house. Priced at $90, this mount offers a unique way to carry around an auction house and mail services with Morten and Killia, two characters that accompany the Brutosaur on players’ adventures throughout Azeroth.

With only a few months remaining before the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur is removed from sale on January 6, 2025, fans are quickly gathering the necessary funds to secure this rare and highly sought-after mount. Those who wish to obtain the Brutosaur without spending $90 can opt to purchase WoW Tokens instead. These tokens, which are bought for $20 and sold on the in-game auction house for gold, can be exchanged for $15 in Battle.net Balance (after a $5 transaction fee).

However, this method has introduced a new challenge, as the high demand for the mount is causing WoW Tokens to sell out on the auction house. With players using these tokens en masse to fund their Brutosaur purchases, the in-game price of WoW Tokens is rapidly increasing. According to one WoW player on Reddit, tokens that recently sold for around 200,000 gold on North American servers are now approaching 400,000, and the price continues to climb.

This phenomenon has even resulted in a temporary shortage, with some servers reporting a complete absence of WoW Tokens for sale. As redditor arasitar described, "The auction house’s WoW Token right now is out of supplies… probably going to go to 400k in a short bit." At the time of publication, the token price on U.S. servers sits at approximately 335,171 gold, meaning the Brutosaur costs around two million gold via auction house Tokens. This is less than the five million gold required for its original version in 2018 but still a significant investment.

The WoW community's reaction to the Brutosaur's price has been varied, with some players coming to Blizzard's defense by pointing out that previous high-cost mounts have also been met with great demand. The original Brutosaur, which was introduced during the Battle for Azeroth expansion in 2018, sold in large numbers despite having a price tag of five million gold. Throughout the years, WoW mounts have consistently been a valuable feature of the game, and many players are eager to own a unique mount that symbolizes both dedication and wealth.

On the other hand, some players have criticized Blizzard for putting a steep price on a convenience feature that they believe should be more accessible. The ability to carry around an auction house and mail services with the Brutosaur offers a significant advantage, especially for players who frequently engage in the game's economy or who prefer to remain out in the world rather than returning to cities to manage their inventories or mail.

As the clock continues to tick down on the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur’s availability, it remains to be seen whether Blizzard will adjust the prices or take any other steps to address the scarcity of WoW Tokens on the auction house. For now, players who are determined to obtain this rare mount will need to be prepared to pay a premium or patiently wait for the token prices to stabilize.
