A provider of decentralized cloud gaming infrastructure, Aethir, has been featured in a newly released case study by SuperScale, a global expert in gaming user acquisition. The study examines how Aethir’s cloud streaming technology enhances user acquisition strategies for gaming studios, presenting a scalable alternative to traditional app store distribution.

Commonly, gaming studios face significant service fees when distributing games through commercial app stores, with some platforms taking up to 30% of a game’s revenue. Aethir’s decentralized cloud infrastructure enables studios to bypass these costs by utilizing web-based streaming, providing an independent publishing model designed to increase user acquisition.

Key aspects of Aethir’s cloud streaming include seamless game integration, minimal latency for optimal gameplay, and cross-device compatibility, catering to a broader audience.

SuperScale conducted a two-phase analysis to assess Aethir’s impact on gaming user acquisition, focusing on conversion rates and return on ad spend (ROAS). The mobile game Tiny Tower was selected as the test subject for the study.

In Phase 1, SuperScale examined how different engagement methods—'Stream Now,' 'Instant Play,' and 'Download'—affected user acquisition metrics, particularly cost per install (CPI) and engagement rates. The goal was to determine which method drove the highest user acquisition efficiency.

Phase 1 Findings:

'Stream Now' engaged more users at a lower cost compared to 'Instant Play' and 'Download.'

'Stream Now' achieved the lowest CPI and highest engagement at the same cost.

The findings suggest that Aethir’s cloud streaming technology may be a cost-effective and efficient way to acquire users for mobile games.

In Phase 2, the focus was on measuring early engagement and ROAS by comparing user behavior between app store downloads and Aethir’s Stream Now feature. The analysis aimed to assess which platform drove better early engagement and ultimately, a higher return on ad spend.

Phase 2 Findings:

Aethir’s Stream Now feature showed higher session time and day 1 retention compared to app store downloads, indicating better early engagement.

Despite lower CPI for app store downloads, Stream Now performed better in terms of ROAS, demonstrating the long-term value of Aethir’s technology.

The results highlight Aethir’s role in not only acquiring users but also driving deeper engagement and lasting interest in the game.

Aethir’s cloud streaming infrastructure may be particularly beneficial for:

smaller gaming studios seeking to maximize their return on ad spend.

mobile games with strong community potential and virality.

games requiring minimal setup and immediate access for new users.

SuperScale’s findings provide valuable insights into the efficiency and scalability of Aethir’s decentralized cloud streaming technology in the context of gaming user acquisition. The complete study is available on Aethir’s website.
