Active vs. Inactive Trades: Analyst Highlights Smart Strategies
May 28, 2025 at 01:00 am
Altcoin Sherpa, a well-known crypto trader and educator, recently shared insights on the difference between active and inactive trades
Crypto trader and educator Altcoin Sherpa is highlighting the difference between active and inactive trades.
The well-known influencer says that understanding whether you're trading an active or inactive coin can influence your overall strategy.
Active trades involve tokens that are trending, highly volatile and showing strong momentum in either direction. For example, HYPE fits this category as it's expanding rapidly and offers fertile ground for high-leverage strategies.
Inactive coins, on the other hand, are consolidating, ranging or accumulating with no clear trend. ENA, in Sherpa's view, is a prime example. It's not moving much and doesn't offer immediate opportunities for traders seeking fast gains.
"Don't use 20x leverage on ENA at these prices to get -0.5% in the next 12 hours," the trader warns.
Instead, he says that ENA is a better fit for spot buyers who are betting on the coin's long-term fundamentals and waiting for a broader narrative to develop and trigger a breakout.
"People buying ENA at these prices are strong-hand spot buyers who believe in the project long-term and are patiently waiting for the breakout to complete the final stage of the bull market."
Sherpa adds that he prefers to use leverage on assets that are already moving.
"Coins like ENA are better suited for those who want to enter early on strong fundamentals and wait patiently for the breakout."
In essence, Sherpa is emphasizing aligning trading tactics with market conditions—leverage for volatile coins, patience for consolidating ones.
"My point is to align your trading tactics with the market conditions. If the market is offering high-leverage opportunities on assets that are already moving, then take advantage of them. If the market is offering low-leverage opportunities on assets that are patiently consolidating, then adjust your approach accordingly."
