How to trade Spot market on Gate.io app? (Trading Tutorial)
To place a market order on Gate.io’s Spot Trading interface: log in, tap Trade → Spot, search a pair (e.g., BTC/USDT), select Market order, enter quantity, verify balance and slippage, then confirm—execution is instant and irreversible.
Apr 14, 2026 at 11:40 am
Accessing the Spot Trading Interface
1. Launch the Gate.io official mobile application after successful login using your registered email or phone number.
2. Tap the bottom navigation bar labeled Trade, then select Spot Trading to enter the main spot market view.
3. Use the search bar at the top to input a specific trading pair such as BTC/USDT or ETH/USDT, and confirm selection by tapping the matching result.
4. Verify that the interface displays Spot Trading in the top-left corner and no leverage icon appears in the top-right, ensuring you are not in margin or futures mode.
5. Check the order book section for live updates on Best Bid and Best Ask prices—this confirms real-time market data synchronization.
Selecting Order Type and Inputting Parameters
1. On the right-side trading panel, locate and tap the Market tab to activate market order mode; this bypasses price entry and prioritizes immediate execution.
2. In the quantity field, enter the exact amount of base asset you wish to buy or sell—for example, 0.005 for 0.005 BTC.
3. For buy orders, the system automatically checks if sufficient USDT or stablecoin balance exists to cover the estimated total cost based on current ask depth.
4. For sell orders, the platform validates available balance of the quoted asset before allowing submission—insufficient balance triggers an immediate alert.
5. The interface dynamically calculates and displays the estimated total value in real time beneath the quantity input box.
Confirming Direction and Executing the Trade
1. Choose between Buy [Asset] or Sell [Asset] buttons—these labels update dynamically depending on the selected trading pair.
2. A confirmation modal appears showing Order Type: Market Order, selected direction, entered quantity, and estimated execution value.
3. No price specification is shown in this modal since market orders rely entirely on live order book liquidity.
4. Press the Confirm Buy or Confirm Sell button at the bottom of the modal to initiate instant matching against available limit orders.
5. Upon submission, the app emits a brief green notification stating Order Placed Successfully, followed by automatic refresh of the filled orders tab.
Verifying Execution and Reviewing Details
1. Navigate to the Orders section and switch to the Filled Orders tab to locate the most recent transaction record.
2. Each completed entry shows status marked as Completed, along with timestamp, executed quantity, and actual fill price.
3. The Average Fill Price reflects a weighted average across multiple partial fills if the order size exceeded single-level depth.
4. Scroll horizontally within the row to view Fees Paid, denominated in the quote currency, calculated at the platform’s applicable taker rate.
5. Cross-check the final balance under Assets → Spot Wallet to observe updated holdings post-trade settlement.
Common Questions and Direct Answers
Q: Can I cancel a market order after clicking Confirm?A: No. Market orders execute instantly upon confirmation and cannot be withdrawn or modified once submitted.
Q: Why does my executed price differ from the displayed Best Ask or Best Bid?A: Market orders consume liquidity across multiple price levels; the final fill price is a volume-weighted average of all matched limit orders.
Q: Is slippage visible before placing a market order?A: Yes. The app displays an estimated slippage percentage next to the average fill price preview during confirmation.
Q: Do I need KYC verification to place spot market orders?A: Basic KYC is required to withdraw funds, but placing and executing spot market orders only requires account registration and two-factor authentication.
