How to get started with a Keplr wallet for the Cosmos ecosystem?
Keplr is a Cosmos-focused wallet: install the extension, create or import a wallet, add chains like Cosmos Hub or Osmosis, stake ATOM, and connect to dApps—all via IBC-compatible interfaces.

Installation and Setup Process
1. Visit the official Keplr website and download the browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Brave, or Edge.
2. Click “Add to Chrome” (or equivalent) and confirm the installation prompt in your browser.
3. Once installed, click the Keplr icon in the top-right corner of your browser to launch the interface.
4. Select “Create a new wallet” and agree to the terms and conditions.
5. Write down the 24-word mnemonic phrase on paper—never store it digitally—and verify the words in the correct order.
6. Set a strong password to encrypt your wallet locally; this password does not recover your assets if lost.
Connecting to Cosmos-Based Chains
1. Open the Keplr extension and navigate to the “Wallet” tab to view supported networks.
2. Click “Add Network” and search for “Cosmos Hub”, “Osmosis”, “Juno”, or “dYdX” depending on your intended use case.
3. Confirm the chain ID, RPC endpoint, and coin denomination—Keplr often auto-fills these for major chains.
4. Toggle “Enable” after review, then click “Approve” to register the network in your wallet.
5. Return to the “Wallet” tab to see balances and staking options once the chain syncs successfully.
Staking ATOM and Earning Rewards
1. Ensure your wallet holds ATOM tokens transferred from an exchange or another wallet.
2. Click “Stake” next to Cosmos Hub in the Keplr interface to open validator selection.
3. Review validator metrics: uptime, commission rate, self-bonded stake, and delegator count.
4. Select a validator and enter the amount of ATOM you wish to delegate.
5. Confirm the transaction using your wallet password; rewards will accrue automatically every block.
Using Keplr with dApps and Bridges
1. Navigate to a Cosmos-compatible decentralized application such as Osmosis Exchange or Astroport.
2. Click “Connect Wallet” and choose Keplr from the list of available options.
3. Approve the connection request; the dApp will now read your address and balance.
4. Initiate swaps, liquidity provision, or governance voting directly through the dApp interface.
5. For cross-chain transfers, use IBC-enabled bridges like Axelar or the Cosmos Gravity Bridge with Keplr’s built-in IBC support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I import an existing Ledger Nano wallet into Keplr?A: Yes—Keplr supports Ledger devices for Cosmos chains. Connect your Ledger, enable the Cosmos app, and select “Import Ledger Wallet” during setup.
Q: What happens if I forget my Keplr password?A: The password only unlocks your local wallet file. Your assets remain accessible using the 24-word mnemonic phrase to restore the wallet elsewhere.
Q: Does Keplr support Ethereum or EVM-based chains?A: No—Keplr is designed exclusively for Cosmos SDK and IBC-compatible chains. For Ethereum, use MetaMask or other EVM-focused wallets.
Q: Why does my balance show zero after adding a new chain?A: This usually means no tokens have been sent to your Keplr address on that chain yet. Double-check the correct address format and ensure the transaction was confirmed on the target blockchain.
