How to stake Avalanche (AVAX) on Ledger Nano X? (Core Web Guide)
To stake AVAX with your Ledger Nano X, update firmware, install the Avalanche app, connect to Core Wallet, verify your C-Chain address, and delegate ≥25 AVAX—never via X- or P-Chain.
Feb 25, 2026 at 12:00 am
Setting Up Your Ledger Nano X for AVAX Staking
1. Ensure your Ledger Nano X firmware is updated to the latest version using Ledger Live desktop application.
2. Install the Avalanche app directly from Ledger Live by navigating to the Manager tab and searching for “Avalanche”.
3. Confirm installation on the device screen using the physical buttons — the Avalanche logo will appear once installed.
4. Open the Avalanche app on your Nano X before proceeding to any staking interface; this step activates secure transaction signing.
5. Connect your device to a supported browser extension wallet like MetaMask or Core Wallet, ensuring it’s configured to interact with the Avalanche C-Chain.
Connecting Ledger Nano X to Core Wallet
1. Download and install Core Wallet from the official Avalanche website — avoid third-party sources.
2. Launch Core Wallet and select “Connect Hardware Wallet”, then choose “Ledger” from the dropdown options.
3. Approve the connection request on your Nano X screen by pressing both buttons simultaneously.
4. Core Wallet will display your C-Chain address derived from the Ledger device — verify the first and last four characters match those shown in Ledger Live.
5. Confirm that the network selected in Core Wallet is set to “Avalanche Mainnet” and not Fuji or any testnet.
Transferring AVAX to Your Ledger-Controlled Address
1. Copy the C-Chain address displayed in Core Wallet after Ledger connection.
2. Initiate a transfer from an exchange or another wallet, specifying the Avalanche C-Chain as the destination network — sending via X-Chain or P-Chain will result in permanent loss.
3. Wait for at least twelve block confirmations before attempting staking actions; the balance must be fully synced and visible in Core Wallet.
4. Check the transaction hash on subnets.avax.network to validate receipt on-chain.
5. Do not close Core Wallet or disconnect Ledger during sync — interruption may cause balance mismatch or UI freeze.
Initiating the Staking Process via Core Wallet
1. Within Core Wallet, click the “Stake” button located prominently on the dashboard or under the “Network” section.
2. Select “Delegate to Validator” and enter the validator ID or search by name — verify validator uptime, fee rate, and delegation capacity before selection.
3. Input the exact amount of AVAX you wish to delegate — minimum is 25 AVAX, and amounts below this threshold will be rejected.
4. Review all parameters including lock-up duration (minimum 14 days), reward accrual frequency, and withdrawal constraints.
5. Confirm the transaction on your Ledger Nano X screen — the device will display “Confirm Transaction” followed by detailed fields requiring explicit approval.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I stake AVAX using Ledger Nano X without installing Core Wallet?A: No. Core Wallet is the only officially supported interface for Ledger-based staking on Avalanche. MetaMask does not support hardware wallet staking functions for AVAX delegation.
Q: What happens if I unplug my Ledger Nano X during staking confirmation?A: The transaction remains unsigned and will not broadcast. You must reconnect the device, reopen the Avalanche app, and reinitiate the staking flow from the beginning.
Q: Is there a risk of losing staked AVAX if the validator I delegate to gets slashed?A: Yes. Delegators share proportional penalties if the validator violates protocol rules such as double-signing or prolonged downtime. Always review validator slashing history on explorer.avax.network.
Q: Why does Core Wallet show zero balance even though my Ledger Live displays AVAX?A: Ledger Live only shows X-Chain balances by default. You must manually add the C-Chain account in Ledger Live under “Accounts” > “Add Account” > select “Avalanche C-Chain” to view stakable funds.
