How to set up Face ID or Touch ID for the Exodus mobile app?
Enable biometric login in Exodus Mobile via Settings > Security & Privacy—Face ID, Touch ID, or Android biometrics unlock the wallet interface but don’t authorize transactions.

Enabling Biometric Authentication in Exodus Mobile
1. Open the Exodus mobile application on your iOS or Android device. Ensure you are running the latest version of the app available through the App Store or Google Play.
2. Navigate to the Settings menu by tapping the gear icon located in the top-right corner of the main wallet screen.
3. Scroll down and select Security & Privacy. This section contains all authentication-related options including biometric controls.
4. Toggle on the option labeled Use Face ID (for compatible iOS devices) or Use Touch ID (for older iOS models). On Android, the toggle will read Use Biometrics.
5. Confirm your choice by authenticating with your current device passcode or existing biometric prompt. Exodus does not store biometric data — it relies entirely on the operating system’s secure enclave.
Device Requirements and Compatibility
1. Face ID support requires an iPhone X or newer running iOS 12.2 or later. Devices must have Face ID hardware and the feature enabled at the system level under Settings > Face ID & Passcode.
2. Touch ID is supported on iPhone 5s through iPhone 8 and iPhone SE (1st and 2nd generation), provided the device runs iOS 12.2 or higher and has Touch ID activated in system settings.
3. Android users need devices with fingerprint sensors and Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or newer. The device must have a registered fingerprint and biometric permissions granted to Exodus during initial setup or via system app settings.
4. Exodus does not support biometric login on rooted or jailbroken devices due to security restrictions enforced by the underlying OS frameworks.
What Biometrics Actually Protect in Exodus
1. Biometric authentication secures access to the Exodus mobile interface — it acts as a gatekeeper before the wallet dashboard appears.
2. Signing transactions still requires explicit user confirmation within the app. A Face ID or fingerprint scan alone does not authorize transfers or swaps.
3. Private keys remain encrypted on-device and never leave the user’s phone. Biometrics only unlock the local encrypted keychain managed by the OS.
4. Recovery phrase entry bypasses biometric checks entirely. If users manually input their 12-word recovery phrase, no biometric verification is requested during that session.
Troubleshooting Common Biometric Failures
1. If Face ID fails repeatedly, check whether “Require Attention for Face ID” is disabled in iOS Settings — Exodus may misinterpret partial glances as intentional unlocks.
2. On Android, verify Exodus has permission to use biometrics: go to Settings > Apps > Exodus > Permissions > Biometric credentials and ensure it is enabled.
3. Clearing the Exodus app cache does not affect biometric settings, but reinstalling the app requires re-enabling biometrics manually after restoring the wallet.
4. Changing the device passcode or resetting biometric data in system settings automatically disables Exodus biometric login until re-enabled in-app.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does enabling Face ID mean my private keys are stored on Apple’s servers?A: No. Exodus never transmits or stores private keys externally. Face ID only unlocks locally encrypted data held on your device.
Q: Can I use both Face ID and a PIN code interchangeably?A: Yes. If biometric authentication fails three times consecutively, Exodus falls back to requesting your app PIN. You may also manually choose “Enter PIN” at any login screen.
Q: Will biometric login work if I restore Exodus from a backup on a new phone?A: No. Biometric enrollment is tied to the specific device’s secure hardware. After restoration, you must re-enable Face ID/Touch ID or biometrics in Settings on the new device.
Q: Is there a way to disable biometric access without uninstalling the app?A: Yes. Go to Settings > Security & Privacy and toggle off the biometric option. You’ll then be prompted for your app PIN each time you open Exodus.
