How to use Exodus wallet? A complete beginner's guide.
Exodus is a non-custodial wallet: download it, create a wallet, securely store your 12-word recovery phrase, and manage 250+ coins—all without registration or KYC.

Setting Up Your Exodus Wallet
1. Visit the official Exodus website and download the desktop application for macOS, Windows, or Linux. Mobile users can install the Exodus app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Launch the application and click “Create a New Wallet.” You will be prompted to set a strong password—this is required to unlock your wallet each time you open it.
3. Exodus automatically generates a 12-word recovery phrase. Write it down on paper in exact order and store it offline. This phrase is the only way to restore access if you lose your device or forget your password.
4. Confirm the recovery phrase by selecting words in the correct sequence as displayed on screen. Skipping this step compromises wallet security irreversibly.
5. Once confirmed, your wallet is ready. Exodus displays your default Bitcoin address and balance interface immediately. No registration or email verification is needed.
Adding and Managing Cryptocurrencies
1. Exodus supports over 250 cryptocurrencies out of the box—including BTC, ETH, LTC, XRP, ADA, DOT, and many ERC-20 and BEP-20 tokens.
2. To add a new coin, click the “+ Add” button in the asset list, search for the desired cryptocurrency, and toggle it on. The wallet auto-configures network settings and address formats.
3. Each added coin receives its own dedicated receive address. Addresses are generated on-demand and never reused unless manually triggered.
4. Balances update in real time using third-party blockchain explorers and internal indexing nodes. Transaction history appears instantly after confirmation on-chain.
5. You can rename assets, hide unused tokens, and reorder the display list by dragging entries—customization requires no technical configuration.
Sending and Receiving Digital Assets
1. To receive funds, click the “Receive” button next to any asset. A QR code and alphanumeric address appear—share either with the sender.
2. For sending, click “Send,” paste the recipient’s address, enter the amount, and choose the network fee level (Economy, Normal, or Priority). Exodus estimates confirmation time based on current mempool conditions.
3. Before broadcasting, Exodus displays a final summary showing total amount, network fee, and destination address. **Always verify the full recipient address character-by-character—even one mismatched digit causes irreversible loss.
4. Transactions are signed locally using your private key stored only on your device. Exodus never transmits private keys to servers or third parties.
5. After confirmation, the transaction appears under “Activity” with status indicators: pending, confirmed, or failed. Failed sends show error codes like “insufficient funds” or “invalid address format.”
Swapping Tokens Within Exodus
1. Exodus integrates non-custodial swaps via partners including Changelly, Coinify, and 1inch. Swaps occur directly from your wallet without transferring funds to an exchange.
2. Click “Exchange” in the left sidebar, select source and destination assets, enter the amount, and review the estimated output and fees.
3. Rates are pulled live from multiple liquidity sources. Exodus displays slippage tolerance (default 0.5%) and allows manual adjustment before initiating.
4. Once confirmed, Exodus constructs and signs two transactions: one to approve token spending (for ERC-20/BEP-20), then the swap itself. Both require separate signature prompts.
5. Completed swaps reflect instantly in your balance. **No KYC is required for swaps under $250 per transaction, but higher amounts may trigger identity verification depending on the provider.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use the same Exodus wallet on multiple devices?A: Yes—but only through manual recovery. Install Exodus on another device, select “Restore Wallet,” and enter your original 12-word phrase. Never import private keys or share the phrase digitally.
Q: Does Exodus support hardware wallets like Ledger or Trezor?A: Yes. Connect your hardware device via USB or Bluetooth, then enable “Hardware Wallet Mode” in Settings > Wallets. Exodus uses the device’s secure element for signing—private keys never leave the hardware.
Q: What happens if I forget my Exodus password?A: Your password cannot be recovered. However, your 12-word recovery phrase fully restores all assets and transaction history. Without it, access is permanently lost.
Q: Are my funds insured if Exodus gets hacked?A: Exodus is non-custodial—meaning it does not hold or control your private keys. If the Exodus application is compromised, your funds remain safe as long as your device is secure and your recovery phrase stays offline.
