How to use the OKX demo trading account before using real funds?
OKX模拟账户无需API密钥,开发者须改用`flag="1"`初始化python-okx客户端进行测试,Web端Demo与API测试环境完全隔离。

Setting Up the OKX Demo Account
1. Log in to your OKX account or register a new one if you haven’t already. Ensure email verification and basic KYC completion are done, as these are prerequisites for accessing demo features.
2. Navigate to the top-right corner of the OKX website and click on your profile icon. Select “Demo Trading” from the dropdown menu. This redirects you to the demo environment interface.
3. Choose between Spot Demo, Futures Demo, or Options Demo based on your intended trading instrument. Each mode loads with pre-allocated virtual funds—typically 10,000 USDT for spot and 100,000 USDT for derivatives.
4. Confirm activation by clicking “Start Demo”. No deposit or withdrawal actions are possible; all balances remain simulated and reset periodically unless saved via export tools.
5. Verify that the URL changes to include /demo/ or displays a visible “DEMO” badge in the header. This confirms you’re operating exclusively within the sandboxed environment.
Key Functional Differences in Demo Mode
1. Order execution uses real-time market data feeds but does not interact with the live order book. Fills simulate latency and slippage patterns observed in production, yet no actual counterparty matching occurs.
2. Margin calculations, leverage settings, and liquidation logic mirror production rules exactly—including isolated vs cross-margin behavior and funding rate simulations for perpetual contracts.
3. API access is disabled in demo mode. Developers must use the testnet flag (flag='1') separately when initializing python-okx clients rather than relying on the web-based demo UI.
4. Historical trade records appear in the “History” tab but lack timestamps synchronized with real-world events. They reflect session-local time only and cannot be exported as CSV directly from the UI.
5. Sub-account demo functionality is unavailable. All demo sessions operate under the primary account context without hierarchical permission inheritance.
Navigating the Demo Trading Interface
1. The left-side navigation panel includes tabs labeled “Trade”, “Positions”, “Orders”, and “Funds”—identical in layout to the live interface but rendered in a muted gray-blue theme to distinguish simulation status.
2. Clicking “Trade” opens a unified charting workspace powered by TradingView. Indicators, drawing tools, and timeframes behave identically to production, though volume bars display synthetic values.
3. Placing a limit order triggers immediate visual confirmation with an orange “Pending” badge. Status transitions to “Filled” or “Canceled” within 2–5 seconds regardless of price movement, simulating deterministic execution.
4. The “Positions” tab shows unrealized PnL calculated against entry price, using real-time index prices—not mark prices—to avoid confusion during volatility spikes.
5. Hovering over any balance figure reveals a tooltip stating “Virtual balance — not redeemable”, reinforcing the non-financial nature of the session.
Limitations and Constraints
1. Demo accounts do not support wallet deposits, withdrawals, or transfers—even between demo sub-wallets. Any attempt results in a modal error reading “Function unavailable in demo mode”.
2. Staking, DeFi yield products, and NFT marketplace interactions are completely hidden from the demo UI. These modules simply do not render in the sidebar or header navigation.
3. There is no option to adjust starting capital. Balances auto-reset to default amounts after 72 hours of inactivity or upon browser cache clearance.
4. Copy trading and signal-following features are disabled. The “Follow Trader” button appears grayed out with no hover interaction.
5. Multi-currency margin wallets cannot be created or funded. Only USDT-denominated accounts exist across all demo product types.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use my existing API keys in OKX demo mode? No. Web-based demo mode operates independently of API infrastructure. To test API integrations, initialize your client with flag='1' and use your production credentials in testnet mode instead.
Q: Do demo orders affect my trading history in the live account? No. Demo activity is stored in an isolated database cluster. Live account reports, tax exports, and audit logs contain zero traces of simulated trades.
Q: Why does my demo position show liquidation at a different price than expected?Demo liquidation engines replicate live calculation logic precisely—but use index price sources without exchange-specific weighting adjustments. Minor deviations may occur due to synthetic index construction.
Q: Is there a way to extend the 72-hour auto-reset window? No manual extension is available. However, performing any trade action resets the timer. Continuous engagement maintains the session indefinitely as long as the browser tab remains open and active.
