How to use the Crypto.com Visa Card? (Top-up Tutorial)
After receiving your Crypto.com Visa Card, activate it in the app via ID and selfie verification—get a virtual card instantly, then top up with crypto or fiat to start spending.
Jan 29, 2026 at 04:00 am
Card Activation Process
1. After receiving the physical Crypto.com Visa Card, users must log into the Crypto.com app and navigate to the “Card” section.
2. Tap “Activate Card” and follow the on-screen instructions to verify identity using government-issued ID and a selfie.
3. Once verified, the system generates a virtual card number instantly, enabling immediate digital use before the physical card arrives.
4. Users receive an SMS confirmation and email notification upon successful activation.
5. The card is now ready for both online and in-store transactions, provided the wallet contains sufficient crypto or fiat balance.
Funding the Card Wallet
1. Open the Crypto.com app and go to the “Card” tab, then select “Top Up”.
2. Choose the funding source: either crypto (e.g., CRO, BTC, ETH) or fiat (USD, EUR, GBP via bank transfer or debit card).
3. Enter the top-up amount and confirm the exchange rate if converting crypto to fiat—rates are locked at the moment of submission.
4. For crypto top-ups, users must approve the blockchain transaction; processing time varies by network congestion but typically completes within minutes.
5. Fiat top-ups via bank transfer may take 1–3 business days; instant top-ups via linked debit cards incur a 2.99% fee.
Spending Mechanics and Currency Conversion
1. Each purchase triggers an automatic real-time conversion from the user’s selected default currency (set in wallet preferences) to the merchant’s local currency.
2. If the default is CRO, the system deducts CRO first, applies the current market rate, and settles in the required fiat—no manual conversion is needed.
3. Users can change their default spending currency anytime under “Card Settings”, but changes apply only to future transactions.
4. Transaction history appears instantly in the app with full breakdown: merchant name, amount, converted value, fees, and timestamp.
5. All conversions occur at Crypto.com’s proprietary mid-market rate without markup—this differs from legacy card issuers that add hidden spreads.
Withdrawal and Cash Access
1. ATM withdrawals are supported globally wherever Visa is accepted, up to daily and monthly limits defined by card tier (e.g., Ruby Steel allows $200/day, Obsidian allows $1,000/day).
2. Users must enable “ATM Withdrawals” manually in the app under “Card Controls” before attempting cash access.
3. Each withdrawal incurs a flat $2.50 fee for non-Crypto.com ATMs; no fee at partner ATMs listed in the app’s ATM locator.
4. Withdrawn amounts are deducted directly from the card’s fiat balance—not from the main crypto wallet unless auto-top-up is enabled and the fiat balance is depleted.
5. Failed ATM attempts due to insufficient balance or geo-restrictions appear as declined transactions with error codes visible in the transaction feed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Can I top up my card using stablecoins like USDC or USDT?Yes. The app supports USDC, USDT, DAI, and other major stablecoins for top-up. Conversion to fiat occurs at the time of top-up, not at point of sale.
Q2: Why does my card show “Insufficient Funds” even after topping up?This occurs when the top-up is still processing on-chain or when the selected spending currency has zero balance—check “Wallet Balance” per asset, not just total account value.
Q3: Is there a fee for topping up with CRO?No fee applies when topping up with CRO, but users must hold the minimum staking requirement for their card tier (e.g., 375 CRO for Jade Green) to maintain eligibility.
Q4: Can I use the card for recurring subscriptions like Netflix or Spotify?Yes. The card functions as a standard Visa debit card for all recurring billing. Auto-renewals pull from the card’s available fiat balance at the time of charge.
